Met my first pro powerlifter!

Went to the gym today and I looked at the deadlift area and there was Phil Makdesi(sp?) If you ever watch the Met-Rx worlds stongest men comps hes on all the time. After he was finished I walked up and said hi and I got him to sign my hat. He was very nice and polite. Oh yeah, talk about one gigantic Mofo. Hes around 350lbs at 6'4. Biggest back ive ever seen. WOuld have liked to talk to more but his english is kind of broken and I dont speak french.

I know I'm going to sound stupid (nothing new). But, I didn't know plifting had a pro class.

I must say that I admire a strong guy and have always trained to be strong myself, watching a hard core power lifter like that train would deffinately rev me up to

Dont you have to win some kind of national title before you can compete at met-rx WSM???Im not a P/L so I dont know. It was just cool to meet 1

there are all kinds of different organizations with in the powerlifting community. all of which have there own status of "PRO". but if you compete a national level and do well you can progress on to bigger things. Most of it has to do with your three lift totals to see who's who. last winter I got the chance to train with Brent Miksell for about three months. he's the current world record hold in the squat @ 1,072lbs. he also held the two previous record before that. and like said by Big Kiwi, it's soo impressive to see some one generate so much power and move such awsome amounts of weight. some of those guys are out of control with how much they can lift. but I'd rather look like I can squat a 1000lbs than actually be able to.*LOL*
