For the past few days I have received pop-ups stating I need to install anti- virus software and then all of a sudded some unknown scan is running and detecting a bunch of trojans and worms and microsoft wants me to install something to remove all this when I was told a long time ago something like this is a virus only ive run different anti-virus and spyware removers and nothing is being detected and a computer shop owner said nothing will detect something like this and to bring it in where they have special software or codes they enter in the computer and I dont have the money for this right now , so any suggestions ?

That's usualy Anti-Virus Pro, probably 2010. Fairly easy to remove, as it is malweare itself. Uninstall all of your normal antivirus, antispam, and antispyware. Download a trial of Kaspersky or F-Secure, install it and do a full scan.

Yep, I've seen it on a few of our computers, as well, and successfully quashed it. A full boot-time scan may be your only option, as it can block known antivirus processes from running once it starts.

Yes, also, if you want to get rid of it manually, it is very easy to do so remotely. Remote Regedit and Windows Explorer remotely via \\computername\c$ works nicely as the malware prohibits Explorer and Regedit from opening on the local computer, along with command prompt. Once you rename the files via Explorer to a ".cfg" extension, do a hard shutdown by pulling the power cord as most of the time it has exit procedures that come off othe stack when you shut down normally. These exit procedures re-write the registry and copy over fresh files to execute the next bootup.

if you're still having problems send me a PM and i can walk you through the removal!! best of luck!!

Had the same thing happen a few days ago. I shut down my computer as soon as it started running a scan, telling me the same garbage. Happens when you visit certain sites. Luckily Kaspersky denied access and deleted it.

I had a similar type bogus Anti-Virus software infect my computer once before. I had no protection at the time and it fried/corrupted my hard drive. Computer wouldn't start, total blank. Had to send it back to the manufacturer for a new hard drive install. Need protection.

try using your system restore option

Another 6 month old thread necro'd. Mack, know the technologies before you advertise their uses. Notice that the original poster is Banned now? Notice how nobody has posted in this thread for 6 months? You should probably avoid suggesting solutions in the computer help section in the future. Especially if this is your method of fixing viruses.

damn guys... just use combofix ;)
