I was playing around wiht a few lifts the other day at different weights, and noticed that the heavier i go, the slower the negative is. i can bounce 225 off my chest all day long but put 400lbs on that bar and it slows way the hell down. Anyone else notice this? I think its just for the purpose of control, its not something concious(Goddamnit i cant fucking spell), just kind of happens with heavy weight. I always try to do a slow controlled negative anyway, but when i wasnt thinking about that in particular i noticed it just kind of happens.

Well think about it, you have less control the heavier you go. Your not going to go fast on negatives because the inertia will be WAY to great to overcome to go back up. If I tried to go fast on heavy sets, I think that would kill my joints or cause an injury

Cause your body knows if you try and bounce that 400 off ur chest... you aint gonna have mucha chest left. That and the strength it takes to stop and reverse a 400lb barbell traveling at very fast rate of speed is MUCH great than stoping and reversing a slow moving one!

I noticed that a while back as well... I think it is a subconscious thing... It's hard to put that much weight in reverse when its coming down too fast....
