i dont know if any of you have been keeping up on the mine collapse here in utah, but they have had rescue crews trying to retrive the trapped miners for the last 10days, today at about 7 o'clock the mine collapsed again on the rescue crews trying to dig out these guys. 9 rescuers were injured and sent to hospitals, 3 or so were life flighted here to salt lake city to level 1 trauma centers, and the remainder were sent to price utah (about 15min from the mine)... sadly 2 of the rescuers have died, i hope no more will perish.... this is very sad.... i live about 2-3 hrs drive from this mine and it really hits home for me, i have a buddy whos father works in this mine, he and his family are fine but they are just torn apart by this whole incident.... please keep these miners and their familys in your thoughts and prayers....

this whole thing is just sad, the original collapse trapped 6 miners in there and they still have not rescued or recovered anything. it is sad to say but i think they are most likely not alive. although i heard about a simular situation in china where a few miners were trapped in a mine for 25 days and were all rescued and lived!, so i guess there is still hope.....

really sorry to hear that bro. A tragedy is even worse when you know people involved. I did here in 911, not even good friends, but just knowing somebody makes it harder on you. I wish them the best, im sure they are smart and are doing all they can to get everybody out alive.

i have been keeping them all in my prayers.... very sad

now the sad thing is how much more do they want to do to try and "rescue" the 6 trapped miners.. they could have died from the initial collapse and now we have rescue workers dying from the rescue attempt.. how much more risk do they want to take?.. can they justify losing any more workers for a possible situation where the trapped miners are already dead ect.. it is a sad tragedy and i would not want to make that call..:( i feel for the families...

ya no doubt man, i wouldnt want to be the one calling the shots....

i dont know where they will go from here? i would think that this will turn into a recovery mission and not a rescue very soon.....

Very sad siuation there in UTAH, I think they will keep trying to rescue these guys even though they have had this awful collaps on the rescue workers.

This is why in my book anyone who puts there life in damger to help another human is a hero in my book and thats what these guys and gals do, Rescue workers should be given the upmost respect from EVERYONE!

We've been following this story pretty closely from Australia. We have a lot of deep underground mines here and we have our share of accidents and tragedies. I have been keeping these guys in my thoughts and prayers. We had two guys actually rescued from a similar situation in Tasmania a while ago. They managed to get these guys out alive. I can only hope and pray for a good outcome to this. We can only pray!!

That is true, but you cant give up on a life. Everyone is as valuable as the next. Every person has a family and people who love them and would be devastated if they lost them. The Rescuers are all volunteers and probably the most respectable and honerable people you will find. They know what they are risking. I would hate to think if i were a miner stuck in there that they would give up on me and let me die. You have to try.... its a shitty sitaution and very sad. Lets all just pray for the best and hope they are found and pulled out alive.....

Awfull situation to be in as far as deciding what to do. These poor
guys down there could posably still be alive but then again do you
want to risk anymore lives to find them. Who ever is responsable
for making that final say will live with that for the rest of his life.
What if ?
I bet if they left it up to the miners up top I know what that decission
would be.

I think you are right.

Thank God there are other's who will at risk of thier own lives give it all to save other's. True hero's.

Very sad situation hopefully will have a better ending. The rescuers who died did so loving what they were doing trying to save others. Never give up on someone in need. You never know when ones self could be stuck in that situation. Not you or our family members would want people to quit attempting to rescue those in need. I will keep all of those involved in the incident in my prayers. MM

I tell you what I am sick of. Its the media parading the co-owner Mr. Murray all around all concerned about the safety of the miners. He insists that it was an earthquake that caused the collapse, a point disputed by seismologists. There has been barely a mention in the media of the dangerous mining methods this company is using or the 300+ safety violations this mine has been cited since 2004.

Being from West Virgina, we are all to familiar with these tragedies. Are thoughts and prayers are with them for sure!

i agree with ya, this murray fellow made like 80 million last year from his mines, he says that in the 20 yrs the mines have had no problems or acidents but 3-4 years ago a miner had his arm ripped off on a conveyor belt.... this guy is a bit of a coward too, he is not even addressing the press about the deaths of the rescue team workers... he seems like an ass to me.....

In our news over here they said the rescue effort was going to be called off! Maybe you guys can shed some more light on this for me. But if this is the case I pray for the families of these men trapped in what will now be their tomb. It is a sad situation all the way around. My family, from my grandad and my father and uncles all worked in the coal mines in OHIO. I have worked in an Underground mine here in Australia. Not a nice place to be when it is good let alone when things go wrong. My heart sank when I heard that the rescue was to be called off. I have held out hope that these guys were still clinging to life down there. Just awful.

It's an awful situation with no easy answers.

I would hate to be in charge of the situation. Tough decisions to be made. I'd hate to be trapped down there in the dark too.
