Olympic weightlifting?

Can Olympic weightlifting be combined with bodybuilding successfully? I know Sergio Oliva used to be a competitive weightlifter as did John Grimek. Does anyone have an example of a training program that combines the two?

For years I have used olympic lifts to provide a firm base. My favorite lift is the clean and jerk. Very taxing but the size it will put on your shoulder girdle is amazing. I will usually stary out a shoulder day with clean and jerk, three sets of 8,6,4 and then move into some more isolated shoulder exercises. I would definately recommend giving olympic lifts a try. They will give you a great overall mass and a more balanced body.

When I first started training, I was very focused on compound movements. Powerlifting and olympic training build a nice foundation for bodybuilding.

it Depends

It depends on your goals, I think OL squats are used far less often than they should be along with the front squat. As for other movements, you can incorporate the lifts in but unless you plan on doing OL solely, be careful OL isn't a routine to take lightly like the xfitters that hop around for 30 minutes for time do. Slap tears and rotator cuff tears are serious and can occur relatively easy from doing shitty form OL. If you are going to do the movements focus on technique before loading up the bar. Good luck and hope it works out.
