No specific recommendation, but just some things to consider:
- Know your outcome. What do you really hope to accomplish? Visualize the end result. Then, either with pictures or description be ready to explain this vision to your coach. He will likely have constructive feedback on the goal itself. Together you should agree on an aggressive but achievable outcome within the time allotted. If you cannot agree, then this is not the right fit.
- Ask for some referrals. Each coach has a core base of clients with similar goals. Are you looking to compete for the first time? A seasoned veteran? Not looking to compete at all, but just want to improve your physique?
- Finally, once you commit -- really commit. Do not second guess. However, as Tenny mentioned, also do not be a robot. This means asking questions when you are not in full agreement, but ultimately following what the coach prescribes. Trust his judgement over your own during the engagement. This is one the main things you are paying for. Many of us seem to self sabotage (e.g. start cutting at the slighted bit of bloat / fat). Your coach will guide you into not making these mistakes.
