Just my thoughts here...........no offense. Young guys see a mass monster like Jay Cutler eating tons of food and equate that with getting TONS OF MUSCLE. The TRUTH is that he eats that much food BECAUSE he has tons of muscle......do not confuse the two. As you gain muscle and progress while staying lean your calorie intake WILL CHANGE.......but you cant force it backwards. This is all I will say.......

If only someone would have explained this to me a looonngg time ago.

Wait, in another thread people were saying that once you're a big bad mofo like Ronnie Coleman you can start eating less and Ronnie had to eat a lot to get there in the first place.:D

Whats your thoughts on Dante's Hardcore Muscle article posted earlier?

I believe Phil. Eat when you're hungry. Don't eat when you're not. Eat until your full, chewing until you have a mouthful of "applesauce". Who knew this aspect of the game only requires common sense?

Thing is though, what about those of us that have to force feed ourselves just to get up around 3500-4000 clean cals a day to be able to progress? If I followed my hunger I would eat about half of that and that is not possible to grow from, I will shrink some. In weekends I have no appetite whatosever, I can go half a day without eating.

..but maybe this post was more towards young guys who cram every clean and unclean cal down their throat!?

im pretty sure thats why he posted it this.
everyone has their own point of view :)

I agree. No point in a guy 180lbs eating 10oz of meat 6+times per day.

so youve tried it and you shrank

or you THINK you WILL shrink?

whats the point of your body's mechansim of hunger/sateity? metabolism and energy expenditure and storage? i think so,,,you ignore that signal what happens?

if you DONT eat when you are hungry then you will shrink, cuz your body is telling you to eat. if you DO eat when NOT hungry, food will be stored as...storage aka fat

what the f do i know, im a skinny bitch, you are probably bigger than me so dont listen to anything i say, im just a parrot LOL

There are some good threads on here lately... I think there is some value to eating for the size you want to be. Not so much if you are 185 eat to be 295, but if you are 185 eat to be 215ish, 225ish...

Thanks Phil

How do you make applesauce out of steak?

For those who force feed

Unfortunately so many times in bodybuilding common sense is ignored. Would one upon filling their car with gasoline continue pumping even though they have exceeded the gas tanks limits and fuel is now spilling all over the gas dock? Does anyone attempt to pour a gallon of water into a 16oz glass watching the glass fill to capacity and the remainder of the gallon jug's content spill all over the floor. I am guessing no one does this, so why in the world would anyone force themselves to eat (not counting a hotdog eating contest) when their body is screaming no. This is a sure fire plan to disaster.

To those who have no appetite then one or more of the following things is not right with you. Here is your check list to go down in order of importance.

1. you are not training hard enough
2. to much stress or not enough rest in your life.
3. when you do eat they are not the right foods for you.
4. something physically could be wrong with you, get checked out
5. maybe you are just not meant to be big. Not everyone can be a doctor nor can everyone be big. How many meals do you think Barry Manilow or Justin Timberlake are getting a day. If being big and ripped is not in your makeup don't stress it be happy with who you are and don't stress over force feeding yourself.

Nice

Might I add that pouring water from a gallon jug into a 16 ounce glass will not make the 16 ounce glass into a gallon jug.........but some 16 ounce glasses THINK they are a gallon jug.

Sound Advice from Phil!

As always, very sound advice! As the current generation of youngsters are likely the first in a very long time to have a shorter life expectancy then their parents (due to poor diet, lack of adequate physical activity --> insulin resistance, etc.), I hope more people interested in putting on quality mass understand that it takes time, proper nutrition, and patience. Simply over eating will only result in a myriad of unnecessary side effects. Unfortunately, other than some increased fat from overeating induced weight gain, many of the other serious side effects are not noticed by the individual until years later...

Outstanding post Tony and thanks Phil for putting up this thread which puts more common sense into a diet rather then following what a Pro does.
