I thought it was interesting that when asked about supplementing with BCAA's and Glutamine Dave Palumbo responded that with a quality whey protein isolate there is no need for BCAA's and Glutamine. It will save me some $$$ on my next supplement order.:)
I like it when Pro's aren't constantly hyping every supplement under the sun.

EXACTLY

YOU DONT NEED THEM IF YOU USE THE LBAs, TRUE PROTEIN WHEY OR SYNTHEPURE. SAVE YOUR $$

I like Glutamine and I take pepto pro over BCAA's anyday.

But as PHIL mentioned a high quality whey for SP and TP will suffice instead of BCAA's. For a while my PWO drink was grape juice (dextrose) and whey ion x.

bcaa's really help on those who are cutting calories, or if you want to take some on am empty stomach before doing cardio.

I disagree about the glutamine,,,but with the BCAA,,most solid whey proteins are loaded with them already.

That's just Dave being Dave...super honest stand up guy.

Remember though that whey is rich in Glutamic Acid, not Glutamine. They are not the same things. Even though glutamic acid can convert to glutamine in times of need, this process still takes time and energy expenditure.
So like Alin said, id supplement with glutamine separately.

Of course you don't need them, Glutamine especially, a pretty worthless supp IMO. but supplementing with free form bcaa's, leucine, and eaa's taken pre, during, post will be much more helpful than solely using whey protein.

Know what? Ive always thought this bt never really said anything! Maybe extra glutamine, but not AA's and BCAA's? As a trainer anyone who ever asked about using those I always said just use a high quality protein powder aka synthepure.

G- I remember your post from IM about the Pepto-- I tried it for a while. I have to say I like BCAA's better. Using BCAA's before and during a workout (I like to put aprx 10-15 grams in a bottle of coconut water) has made a great difference for me. I found the Pepto comparable to a high quality whey.

LBA's, Pepto, and BCAA's are all quality supplements, but LBA's were a bit harsh on my stomach, Pepto wasn't worth the extra cost over a good Whey.....powdered BCAA's are a staple for me now.

btw-- Massive G- your posts are always very helpful, and bromelain in particular has been awesome for me--- thanks for your many insights over the years

This is not that hard to figure out, I'm not sure why more people don't get this type of thing. Its not only w/ BCAA's and Glutamine, lets look at even protein. Why does every one seem to think its a supplement? to me its a nutrient..

I looooove the coconut water! :) I laugh when I see Gatoraide commercials touting how it's the best re-hydrator..blah blah..

I think the best tasting brand is O.N.E Vitacoco also is good, and they add stuff like mango and peach to theirs. the stuff certainly isn't cheap--I get a tiny discount at the local health food store when I buy it by the case

Considering that over 50% of your muscle tissue is comprised of Glatamine, it is far from a worthless supplement. Taken immediately post workout to saturate your muscle tissue. You have to replace what you steal from your body. I take mine right away PWO. Befor bed. And first thing in the morning. Even with AAS we still need Suplementation, maybe even more so.

Bump Dave....Nutrient it is. We just buy it at a Supplement store.
Or we supplement our diet with these Nutrients....
