Nick Walker Interview on Training and Future

That's one of the things that's come out in all this - when he was working with Dom Mutascio he wanted Walker to get all sorts of health stuff done and Walker did some and blew off the rest.
It’s not surprising to me honestly after now being so deep into things at this level and knowing so many national level and pro guys.

At a certain level of pushing and doing it so many years you know you need to get it done, and should when your coach ask for it. But in my experience they just don’t want to know. Because if they do a CT angiogram for Cleerly or Heart Flow for example and it comes back with blockages then that means they have to accept what they aren’t ready for- to their coach and themselves which is that they are done at that level.

We all know that doing this sport at that level even at the generic elite level requires boatloads of supplements, peptides, and medications to offset where they are pushing at. For many it’s whatever it takes. So if they aren’t ready to be done, they don’t want to even risk opening that door. And many think “if there is something there and it gets bad I’ll know and feel it first because I’m so in tune with my body.” LOL no.

I’m not saying I agree with the above as we all have to pick our values and boundaries. Just offering some insight as I have had these convos with many guys at that level on this subject as I genuinely wanted to understand.

He should hire Samons wife 😅

But then again hearing Chase Irons talk about all the drama Surrounding Samson not giving props to some guy (forget his name) from Marek health is it? Who apparently did all his gear/health side of coaching I’m not even sure if she did coach him
They’re not “coaching” in its full definition. They’re just the bloodwork and health monitoring group. They’re sponsoring and aligning with many top guys and coaches currently to grow their brand and services.

Nothing new as Revive and many others have been doing this for years. It’s great if they can get traction and guys to do it as it cuts out having to get your own bloodwork and then knowing how to read it all and make changes. And while there are many intelligent coaches, most are not medically trained to read labs and make medical recommendations on them.

Yep I saw that video too…I’m curious as to why he needs someone to train him…. I also wouldn’t want to be around Dr Mike…..dude is strange 🤨🤨

I’ve known Mike since 2016-17. Hung out with him in the gym, on the mats, and at his home. His videos are exaggerated, with attempts to be funny/entertaining. He’s a Russian Jew, so he’s constantly trying to crack terrible jokes. Honestly, it’s refreshing being around because he’s not an uptight asshole. I’m going to watch him get his black belt in a few weeks. Looking forward to it.

A lot of what Dom was saying on the video I assume you are referring to with Palumbo recently I didn't buy into personally. It just felt like he was trying to market himself and humble brag.
I recall many months after Nick already left Dom and had went back to Matt, he was regularly talking in videos about blood test results, doing food allergy testing, talking about gut health, and other things health related that it seemed like he had a genuine personal interest in.

It took me a while to get use to but I do enjoy his videos now.

The interview with Lee Labrada let's you see the real person more

Yea, I can see that. I just need to realize he puts on for the vids I guess. He doesn’t need to do anything but share his knowledge.

In his defense, whatever he’s doing has made his YouTube channel explode in popularity so I wouldn’t fix what ain’t broken either.

I know Dr Mike is a sharp dude but he and Jared act to weird for me. Those Videos from Mike are always making references to some sexual shit. To me its just to damn gay. Maybe Nick is down with that.. He said Jared is training him so you know Dr Mike will be in the mix……
I’m not saying the training isn’t good but WTF does he need some app to tell him…..
Yeah I noticed this a few years ago he went from decent content to just being a chuckle fuck. Can barley stand him. Not a fan of his training I think he makes it was more complicated than it needs to be. Obsessed with frequency, rir, I've never heard him acknowledge the most recent "data" that shows training a muscle 1x a week is equally as good as 2x. "Junk volume " lol

The problem with data is that it’s not representative of bodybuilders (nor could it be) who obsess over an infinite number of variables that would influence the outcomes.

Low volume works. High volume works. RIR works. Failure works.

People act like Mike is a skinny dude. No matter how much people disagree with him, where’s the proof? 9/10 people on this board aren’t as big as he is. Most use the same amount of, if not MORE gear. He’s like 5’6, 235.

seems in his recent youtube video he has jared feathers doing his training programming

What I dont understand though, if you've been lifting for years or decades, especially at the highest level--Why would you need someone else to do your training programming?

Structure

So hes not lost in his own head wondering if he's doing the right thing. Pushing hard enough ect

Would be my guess

I think he actually simplifies training and you would be the perfect candidate for it bro. Seriously

Because after having had success using a certain method for so long, it's easy to get stuck in your ways - so much so that it's difficult to make (and stick with) small, necessary adjustments. And then in some cases, a high-level athlete might decide to do things differently and end up going from confident to confused with regards to something that's been second-nature for years or decades.

If you're less obsessed or less emotionally attached to training or bodybuilding as a whole, it might be easier to take a bird's eye look at your own training. But it can be very difficult to do so when this endeavor is on your mind 24/7.

I like to think of myself as pretty analytical and accepting of reality, and it's still taken a couple of people to call out what a stubborn ass I've been with regards to my own training at times. Thankfully I listened :)

I’m trying to remember who Ronnie’s “training coach” was those last 7 Olympia's. You know? That guy he paid to stand behind him at Metroflex and encourage him and tell him to get tough when he was soft on a set. Who was that guy..

I kid of course but as an old guy it’s strange to me that a high caliber pro would need detailed coaching beyond diet and drugs. Seems like hand holding. Or maybe it’s the level of dependence and importance given to who is coaching who. “Oh he has that guy now. That guy will get him the trophy!”

I understand it of course it’s just strange to me the way things have changed. I have nothing against any of it it’s just not of my time.

Ronnie was a different animal brother

@d4ve post sums it up pretty well

He said his look going into the O in 2023 and he was this doing this style of training then so wanted to revisit

He was my example but far from the only pro I could have mentioned from the past.

Nick likes there training ideas, principles ect

Maybe he's just trying to give him some props and credit along the way.

I admire that. I see the benefits and the way coaching is done today is helping competitors at all levels achieve their best. That’s not a bad thing by any means.

I’m just one of those guys who internalizes during a session. Everything happening around me fades out. I don’t even want a spotter near me.
