Poll: Should you shower (or wash the site) before you inject?

Alcohol is my best friend during injection "rituals" and ESPECIALLY washing my hands before.

I always wipe the area with alcohol swab.

I take my time and wipe in a circular fashion for a long 15 seconds. Probably unnecessary but I've had a bad MRSA infection (unrelated to pinning) and I'd rather not have to deal with something like that again.

Are you guys nuts? Self-injections? You should never inject yourself, that should only be done by a qualified healthcare professional... That said, I've never once had them ask me to shower, or have they ever washed me with soap, just a dab of alcohol...

....and thats why I married a phlebotomist......lol

Well she was when we got out off college but has moved on but still gives great shots and no we don't wipe the vials we don't wipe the injection site u guys live this shit know what we use for bandages scotch tape

Slightly off topic but if you want the easiest glute injection you've ever done then don't shower but rather soak in a really hot both right before doing the injection.

My RN wife tells me its not really the alcohol that does anything, its the friction of the rubbing. You don't need to shower if you use rubbing alcohol and rub for a min of 15sec. If you don't rub for 15sec, you should shower.

I shower before I inject when I work outside. If I'm indoors ill just use a alcohol swab.

If I'm dirty or sweaty I will definitely shower first. However, I've done many injections without showering first and simply using alcohol swabs and I'm still kicking.

i just swab the vial my hands and the area i will inject also you can leave sometime to achohol to start reduce the bacteria and then shoot...btw the shower dont means always cleaner too much bacterias in water..

I inject when I get the time during the day. Showered or not a alcohol prep takes care of that

There are many times when I inject fresh out of the shower and still wipe with alcohol. If I am not sweaty and sticky I'll just swab with alcohol then inject.

You should ALWAYS wash with soap and water, not because you are giving yourself an injection, but because its sanitary and others will thank you.

In all seriousness if you're showering before pinning you maybe a little over paranoid. Wash your hands, swab some alcohol, jab, and get on with your day!

Agreed, this is how I do it

wash your hands with soap and warm water
dry your hands
swab the top of the vial for 15 seconds
pull in the oil
change the needle
swab the injection site very well, don't let your hands touch it
finish your injection

if you're still paranoid, have another swab ready to clean the area afterwards
put a bandaid if it's bleeding

no shower necessary unless you were doing some crazy ****

swioe is all u need, shit sometimes i dont even bother depends on what body pary and how long its been since i've showered.

i use to never swipe, although i also use to be a knuckle head
