Does anyone here eat raw eggs everyday? How many?

I used to eat 6-10 a day, but the risk of Salmonella, and my mom worrying about Salmonella, have persuaded me to switch to Egg Beaters (99% egg whites)
I want to try some of the Omega-3 eggs I saw about in a thread on here.
The whites are pretty nasty by themselves. The whole eggs are pretty nasty too.
Come to think of it I started that crap after the Rocky movies.
It helps to put a pack of equal, some nutmeg and cinnamon and Vanilla extract in.

Don't let your buddies see that part 'cause Rocky wouldn't approve of it.

Only the carton egg whites,they are pasturized.I pour them in my protein drinks. You risk Salmonella with raw eggs.

Some info on the risk of salmonella via raw eggs:
"If one looks at studies which have been done to analyse the risks of contracting salmonella from raw eggs, it is surprising to find out how low this risk actually is. A study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 2002 (Risk Analysis April 2002 22(2):203-18) indicates that only 2.3 million, out of the 69 billion eggs produced annually, are contaminated with salmonella.

So this really means that only 0.003 % of eggs are infected. Viewed another way, only 1 in every 30,000 eggs is contaminated with salmonella, which shows how uncommon this problem actually is."

And that 1 / 30k risk does not mean that 1 / 30k will have enough salmonella to get sick, only that 1 / 30k will be contaminated (it may be insubstantial).
 
That's a good point berserker. Me i eat raw eggs everyday 10 to be exact and i've done it for hmmm several months with not so much as a tiny problem.

mlogikal - how do you eat them? alone, or do you blend them in shakes?
 
I've consumed raw eggs for probably the last 6 months or so without any problems. Though I've read that your body will assimilate them better when they are cooked.
 
i throw them in the blender with a handfull of frozen blueberries, raw oatmeal, yogurt, and a scoop of whey protein....... not bad i get carbs, calories, and tons of protein......that's my morning shake
 
I used to consume raw eggs all the time. I've gotten sick from it twice. The last time about a month ago. Hence, the "used to". I'm sure I'll start up again. My weight gainer shakes aren't the same without them. When I started eating raw eggs all the time was about 6 years ago. I would eat 6-8 whole eggs blended with 1-2 cups oatmeal in a blender. I would do that 1-2 times per day, sometimes more. I stopped doing that, and switched to only adding them to my gainer shakes, which were 2-3 eggs per and I would drink that twice a day. I'm a bit sketchy about drinking raw eggs at the moment, but I'm sure that fear will subside soon enough.

And he was right, dark leafy greens like spinach and collards, turnip greens and kale are SUPERFOODS!
Lots of vitamins and iron. Or EYE- RON as popeye would say.

You are what you absorb not what you eat. If you want to see benefits from eggs cook them and utilize the most complete protein on the planet if not you might as well send your money to me rather than wasting it on undigested eggs.
 
i have done it for years without a problem. I just throw em in a glass take a fork mix em up and down em



nasty----but its quick and serves the purpose
 
you need to supplement with biotin if only eating the raw egg white...Biotin deficiency WILL occur if eating a large amount of raw egg whites, if you include the yolk, you will be fine as the yolk contains biotin....
Egg white contains avidin which binds to biotin very effectively and transports it out of your body...
Pasteurizing egg whites removes pretty much all the avidin...I found out the hard way with a big rash that was previously diagnosed as rosacea....It was not...It was biotin deficiency as i was eating 18 plus eggwhites per day, crack and eat style....

Great info IW. I did a little research to back up what I was saying about digestion of raw eggs. This is what I found.

Soft boiled and poached eggs are better than eggs cooked in other ways. The yolk is easily digested even by infants of 9 months old. Eggs are used in slimming diets since they have only negligible amounts of carbohydrate, but plenty of protein, vitamins, and minerals. The limiting factor of egg is that it does not contain vitamin C. Raw albumin contains an anti-digestive factor that interferes with digestion. The egg also has a compound called avadin, which reacts with biotin (Vitamin H) and makes it unavailable. Both these factors get destroyed while heating.

I know it's not much but I would rather take a few seconds to cook the egg to be sure that I can propperly digest and use its nutrients. Any thoughts on the bodies ability to digest uncooked eggs? I would love to be scientifically provven wrong because drinking eggs would be easy at night along with my isolates.

I've heard that the protein absorption of a raw egg is about 50% while that of a cooked egg is about 85%. These are just "internet forum" numbers though - I don't have any solid literature to back them up.
Regardless, I think I'll stick with putting my egg in a mug and nuking it for 20 seconds before I throw it in my shake.

I eat about 8 per day, raw from the carton which is pasteurized. I think that is like 50grams of protein. This is my first meal or second meal. I recently tried Muscle Milk Oat Meal which is 30grams of protein in a small container. I get the maple flavor. Most of the high end protein shakes use eggs as a base in powder form. Why they cost more.
 
I was under the impression that raw eggs pass through the digestive track too quickly to be completely digested.
