reverse grip benchpress better then incline for upper pec development?

I use them ocassionally and like them. I usually do them as like a third or fourth exercise so a lot of weight isn't required. And a thumbless grip is a must so you don't destroy your wrists

I really like setting the stoppers in the smith machine about 4-6 inches above my chest when doing incline (low incline, that is).

after I complete my work sets, I drop the weight down a bit and do reps where I let the bar come to a complete stop on the safety stoppers, but still keep a measure of tension on the muscles.. I make sure to use a really slow negative each rep, and explode from the stoppers for the concentric.

you can even throw static holds in there too..cuz the bar can't come crashing down on you

I like it :)

too bad the smith machine in my gym really sucks so I can't really do it anymore lol :((

I like these wide grip on a smith machine with my chest up and ass off the bench, it took a good 3-4 times to get comfortable with these.

The Barbarian Brothers were doing the reverse grip bb flat bench back in the 80's.

this is why i think using DBs and just making your palms turn in as far as possible w/o pain would be beneficial over using a bar... i can't straight bar curl, reverse pulldown, or underhand rows w standard bar bc my wrists don't like to turn that much...i have to modify the movement to a EZ bar....

Same here. I don't turn the db far though, I only do palm facing palm. My wrist just give me too much trouble if I turn to much. so reason why I gave up straight bar curls.

If you're going to use reverse grip on a flat bench, use the Smith Machine. MUCH easier on the wrists and you can focus a whole hell of a lot more then just balancing the weight with the lowering and pressing.

My upper pec region is sore as can be today from my chest workout yesterday. I did 4 sets of low incline smith machine reverse grip benchpress, 4 sets of free weight flat barbell reverse grip benchpress and 2 sets of high 60degree angled incline dumbell flies. Upper chest is more sore then it's ever been for me. I'm hoping that this reverse grip pressing stuff helps me bring up my lagging upper chest since conventional incline movements haven't.

These kill my writs. Have tried numerous times over the years. I just cant get down with this movement. I prefer incline dumbbell HexPress.

tried w DBs today, i just don't like the movement over conventional...

used to do these when I trained Dc quite a few years ago, I did notie a better upper chest

about three months or so ago started ding them bc I saw them being promoted by Jim Stop as having research behind thm , the canada research, where it claimed to hit upper chest better than inclines (30% rgbp, vs 5 % incline bb)

no more beating that damn logbook ...did it for ten years, and got too injured...instrictive training i for me and dont need to wrote my exercises down like I used to,ive evolved-ot helped me for a decade or longer. Moreover, I do track my calories and have done this a long time

I like reverse grip when my shoulders are hurting. Still gives me a helluva pump on my tris so it's not the greatest for my chest. As far as feeling it in my upper chest I've never been successful at getting one part to grow. I just focus on the whole chest and the upper seems to take care of itself

Try this one Low Cable Crossover Exercise Guide and Video

Works good with no wrist problems. You also can do this exercises with dumbells.

lol.. wow.

Anyways, I tried the reverse grip benchpress while laying on the floor (was targeting triceps).

it felt pretty darn good, and since I was laying on the floor, risk was greatly reduced, which meant I was better able to push with reckless abandon, and rest-pause until my triceps were absolutely spent.

tried w DBs today, i just don't like the movement over conventional...

Josh Bryant is big on doing this exercise with DBs.

You can try pronating your hands again as you go up for an amazing chest pump.

meadows does these, cept in the exact opposite way - starting pronated and ending supinated for peak contraction.

feels good man

EDIT: in my post talking about where I did reverse grip bench press lying on the floor, I was doing in with the smith machine
