Ive been going to a Russian sauna aka banya for the last 3 years. You go in for 10 - 15 min, temp is around 200 degrees F, then you go out and jump into a pool of ice cold water, then repeat. The contrast hot/cold is good for blood pressure, removes about 40% of toxins in the body, and is also very good for recovery. When I have some more time I will post some medical studies on the matter.
i do not use a sauna.....but i do use a whirlpool......when i first get in.....i feel like i am an old man......upon getting out......i feel youthful and healthy.
I like using the sauna for detox, sweating out is one of the best ways to clean out the system. No more yellow pit stains. The whirlpool is great on off days for full body circulation which will help recovery. Both are great for stretching.
I use the whirlpool mostly post workout......and only during the winter months.....my lower back and knees feel fantastic when I get out.....I am in the whirlpool for 10 mins......and that is plenty.....usually after every workout....great reward after a workout!
