i wanted to ask phil and big- A about contests and how i can maximize my time by choosing the right ones with the best payoff as far as exposure and for getting me towards my goal without any wasted steps. id apreciate this very much. My pics are in pic forum if anyone needs to refer to them. thanks oh by the way im competing in the cal collegiates this june in pasedena as recommened by Lonnie Teper. should i stick to that show date?

It would seem that you'd want to progress to "bigger" contests as you become successful (place high enough) in one. It would seem that the Pasadena show would be a relatively tough one, but I REALLY DON'T KNOW. IMHO if you do too "large" a contest before you're ready, it sets you back mentally.

BP,

The Cal Collegiates is "Lonnie's show" (he promotes it), so he's naturally going ot tell you do that one. In the past the competition wasn't good, but last year it was not bad. I would think about it if it is a NQ (not sure).

Also, if I recall, Lonnie's show is in the summertime, so its after some of the bigger shows in CA. For exposure, you'll want to think about trying to peak for several shows together. In CA, the orange county is about a month before "the Cal" I think, which is tough as hell, but a great way to network - lots of big names there. There might be some other NQ's in NV or AZ, or near you that you can squeeze in during that time.

Personally, since you're just getting started, I would try to do as many NQ's as possible w/in a couple months, get some good experience and exposure, and perhaps really focus on peaking for one for your shot at national qualification. This, more than likely, might NOT be the Cal shows (unless its Lonnies), as these are some of the toughest to win at the NQ level...

Check npconline.com for a schedule, but also look in the mag's etc, as some of the shows don't seem to get on there sometimes for some reason (even NQ's).

Hope this helps.

randy,
thanks for your reply,
i am already qualified for nationals yet i need some more experience doing Nq shows. I would like to just concentrate on one show and peak to my fullest. i am planning on the cal collegiate show for now and i know there is the los angeles show a month later. well thanks again.
