Squat Stance

How far apart are your legs when you squat? Do you change your stance from time to time?

I prefer to squat wide. However, this tends to hit my inner legs more then overall quads.

Try squatting at just on or outside shoulder width. This is a good stance for overall and will help bring some more quad sweep out.

This may sound like a cop-out answer....

I just take a stance that feels comfortable. Some might call it a narrow stance. I've tried keeping my legs further apart but....it doesn't feel as natural to me.

I also squat low-bar style. Sometimes when I get fatigued in my 20-reppers, I begin to lean over too far....need to work on that.

squat whichever is most comfortable. If you jump up and land, thats pretty much where is most comfortable for most people. Probably like oldfella said just outside of shoulder width(in my case) or shoulder width. IMO genetic determine where the muscle is going (ex. sweep, inner thigh, tear drop, ect.)

I found a much wider stance to help take some pressure off of the lower back.
Squat wide, leg press normal, hack narrow.

i just added the hack for narrow stance. are you doing them with toes straight ahead or more duck footed?

here is an interesting article on oly vs pl squats. it does over-simplify the pl squat though... Kirk Kirkowski and Fred Hatfield did their PL squats in a style closer to Oly.

My hack foot position sometime depends on the ole knees, but usually straight forward.

This is how I have been squatting lately. I still feel more comfortable even wider. I can squat a lot more and go deeper when my feet are wider. Lately I've been lowering the weight and trying to focus on going deeper when squatting with an outside shoulder stance.

I change my stance from time to time...hits the legs at diffferent angle IMO.

I agree with this comment above. Been doing strength training to get my reps level up at a higher weight. I got my squat up to 600 raw with a wide stance but this stance tends to work more the inner thigh, glutes, hamstrings, ham glute tie in and hips. I do leg extensions at vary intensity levels for quads. My back and knees feel great with this stance.

I do narrow 4 sets then wide 4 sets. I never did much wide as I was like "reduces range of motion". But wide stance does hit the muscles different and there is plenty of angles to work on for legs.
