Steroid use in the 50s and 60s

I'm curious about what people know about how the old timers like Arnold and Sergio went about steroids when they first started competing. I remember awhile back ( cant remember where ) I read about how larry Scott took one tab of dianabol a day, for a year before winning the second and last olympia before retiring. This was the first time he took steroids supposedly. any thoughts?
