Strange/ skipped heart beats?

I have a Dr. Appointment on friday about this.
The past few days I have been feeling in my chest a heavy thump as it feels like my heart is starting again after a skipped beat. It is not painful, but very troublesome and annoying. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this?

I have had those before. Those are not that uncommon. When I had my heart stress test, they told me it was nothing to worry about. I thought it was skipping beat but they said it was actually the heart beating a fraction of a second too soon, giving me that sensation. Are you taking a lot of caffine or any stimulants? That can definitely aggravate it.

I have. My doc said it was normal. Did an EKC (or whatever) and it was fine. Maybe get it checked out anyway, but don't panic.

I have definately been using quite a few stimulants (caffeine, methyl mass) and a ton of energy drinks. Today was my first no stimulant day but they have still been bad (heart beat thingys).
How long did it take before they stopped?

I'd give it few days

Thanks man, I feel better. They are annoying as hell! They also interfere with my workouts! I was a bit scared for a while. I will still keep my appointment on friday. Bout time for a checkup either way.

I've had those as well - and ended up at the doctor's with a recommended EKG.

It was caused by the clen, ephed, caffeine i'd been on for too long - and no, it's not *normal*.
It's a sign that your heart is under stress.
I ended up fessing up, and got the lecture on stimulant abuse, and the usual 'your next visit may be the emergency room when you have a heart attack'.

Take it as your bodies warning signal.

How long did yours last? How often during the day? and describe how they felt if you could be so kind.

I also had something similar a few years ago, it was called an Ectopic Heartbeat, and was told these are quite common, i used to feel these all the time, and yeah certainly was a little scary. But these just went away after awhile, although i also think for me i weas holding too much bodyfat, and they seemed to be worse at that time.

I used to get that a lot, when I smoked. Since I quit smoking it went away.

alcohol can also cause arrythmias.

if you have an otherwise healthy heart you are probably experiencing extra pacs and pvcs which is normal in an athletic person. most people in the general population experience various kinds of irregualr heartbeats periodically(not to play it down any). when it happens more often you should become concerned. i would see your doctor and schedule an ECG just to be sure...

i'd get them more at night, when i wasn't moving around as much - during the day i wouldn't notice it at much.
but especially laying in bed at night. that's when i could hear it skip .. and then try to catch up.

tightness in my chest. along with being able to hear a strong heartbeat ..

this has been going on since monday morning. I tried a fat burner that morning I had never heard of (black ice) and thought it was from that. I have also cut carbs almost completely since last friday.

I experience the same thing, I am no professional but from what I understand some skipping CAN be normal. Although not likely it could also signify a very serious problem, Id get it checked just to be safe!

I will without a doubt get it checked. Appointment is for friday. This is some annoying shit. it seems like if I'm moving around it goes away. The minute I site or stand still I can feel it going again. Maybe I'm just too aware of my own heartbeat.

Yeah...can be annoying. I've had these too. Can be stress related, stimulant related, etc... I think its usually recommended that if it lasts for 45 min. or longer then you need to get in and get it regulated.

i find it very interesting to think that everyone ignores what your body is telling you..

this symptom started after taking a specific stimulant.
how obvious is it that it's probably the cause of your symptom?
(esp when you look at the side effects of the products you're putting in your system - that's what they're supposed to do - increase your resting heart rate, etc)

That is going to be the FIRST question your doctor should ask you, so be prepared.
Are you taking any form of stimulants.
The next comment from your Doctor will be, get off, see if the symptoms remain.

sure, ignore it.
that's awesome medical advice. but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to figure out the long term consequences.

I had this when not on ANYTHING.

No one told him to ignore it. They just said it is usually normal.

I'm the kind of person who can get really worked up over a problem like this, and I don't see anyone telling me to ignore it. I see peers and other fitness/bodybuilding enthusuasts sharing their like experiences with me. This makes me feel much better, however, I will still be seeing the doc tomorrow. I have researched this A TON and am sure that it is quite common.
I have been under a TON of stress.
Taking lots of OTC stims
Probably overtraining,
And not sleeping well.
Today I feel much better (we'll see how the rest of the day goes)

I'm just happy that there is a place like this where we can come to share with each other, bitch, moan, complain, and basically hang out with other people just like ourselves.
Thank you everyone for the words.
