So im getting my Tonsils out in a fews weeks. The Doc says it will be a painfull recovery  and estimates that I will lose 15-20lbs. If I keep choking down protein shakes do you think ill will be able to maintain some of my hard earned gains?

i had mine out in highschool. I mixed icecream, with milk and protien powder. only took a week ot recover but he first couple of days sucked.

Hey man I don't think you will loose that much weight.During the last year and a half I have had two shoulder and one knee surgery from a motocross race accident I had. After the second shoulder surgery I wasnt allowed to lift anything for two months and I meen anything at all. I think for that surgery I lost fifteen pounds but the other surgeries I lost about ten pounds each. I think alot of this is water weight and is from the pain meds that kill my appetite. I have been one hundred percent healthy for the past three months and have gained all the strength back and am still working on gaining the weight but it defiantely does suck starting from scratch again. I am 5'9 and before the surgery I was weighing in at 212 9% bf, Im now 190 and probly closer to 11-12% but the best thing I learned from this experience was how grateful I am that I can still lift weights and still race bikes.

I don't know how old you are, I'm 41, I had my tonsils out when I was 30 and let me tell you it was miserable! Recovery is about two weeks but the first week is the shits!! I didn't notice any improvement (pain wise) for the entire first week. When the second week came around, I started to improve daily but slowly. The pain and the hunger together were terrible.

Yeah you're in better shape than I am bro. I am having my back surgery tomorrow and already lost a good 10 pounds because of not being able to work out since the middle of April. Trust me this blows. You should be alright though and really not lose much if any. You should be able to eat after about a week and I would definitely pound down a shit load of protein shakes.

I agree!! I had my out when I was 33. Worst thing I have ever been through!! I was down for 3 weeks. I lost 20 pounds. I could barely eat for the first week. The pain was so bad during that first week didn't even want to eat. Good luck bro. Stay on top of your pain meds and dont' fall behind on the schedule they give you.

dang this is gonna suck :(...good luck with the back surgery man, thats scary stuff. wish ya a speedy recovery.

Protein shakes
Cottage cheese/yogurt if you can handle dairy alright
Soups+ground meats
-it's only a few days, you'll be ok.

You won't lose any contractile tissue... just water and glycogen.

It will come back quick.

yeah i got mine out at 21 and lost about 10 pounds or so but it came back as quick as it left.

i put protein powder and olive oil in every thing possible though. a lot of milkshakes with oats grounded up in a coffee filter and then blender too helped
