Tanning and Tattoos

I have some very good, very colorful (and expensive) ink with many many hours put into it. I don't want to fade it. I know everybody says the sun fades it and it make sense. I mean look at carpenters. Maybe the ink was different then but not likely.

Are there any products I can apply to 'cover' the tats like a "film"?

only thing i can think of is regular tanning lotion (i use baby oil) with a very high spf sunblock over the tats. how would that work?

personally I think tats look best when they've been "sunned in" as I call it. Its like a proper tan sorta blends them onto you and they actually look like they belong there.

Most tan parlors have a special stick for tattoos. Like a little thing of deoderent. Just rub it over our ink - it's SPF 30. Works better than a cream as you can cover just the ink and not have to cover whole area.

Ultraviolet light will definitely fade ink over time and bright colors are the most vulnerable. I have found zinc oxide to be the best at blocking UV. They have some now that goes on white but is clear as you rub it on .

DO NOT USE A VERY HIGH SPF, it can pull color out. i am awesome work, with color, you dont want a sun burn and you dont want super high spf. i am pretty sure you dont want to put anything over spf15 or 20 on your tat.

i use the strongest spf i can find ...usually a 60 whenever my ink will be exposed to the sun, i don't use a tanning bed at all anymore. Way too much time and money invested to let them get destroyed.

i use sunblock on my flames on both forearms anytime im in the sun or tanning booth. it has kept the color bright. and after each shower and every morning put a good hydrating lotion on your ink. it goes a long way to keeping the bright colors. i hear ya about not wanting the color to fade. have you seen lee priest lately? all his tats are fading. its been about 9 months since i got the forearms and they are still as bright as when i got them.

I've had the one on my right arm for about three years now, and since then I've been to Jamaica, dominican republic, and south beach a couple times, and spent much time in the sun and I still get compliments on my tat about how bright the colors are still.

I have 5 tats. The first one was black and I got it done in high school and never tanned then. Then the other 4 I got and tanned, I even used sun block from time to time. Result, the first one is still very black and the rest(done in black) have faded and look more gray/green now.I hate it. Gonna have to get them redone.

Where do I start, yes you should put sunblock on but to be honest it takes a lot of sun to fade a tattoo. YOu need to get burned over and over for it to truly make a change in the work. Second any SPF will work as it truly depends on how often you want to put lotion on your tats. Third if you want one of the best lotion for keeping your tat bright use a product called TATTOO BOOST from biker skin care. I use this stuff every time Im in the sun all day.
