I read this on the internet today. Any truth to this advise?

"If you are not using ZMA currently, you should start it up before starting the IGF-1. Zinc plays a very crucial role in enzyme activation of IGF-1. It also increases blood plasma levels of total and free IGF-1. A deficiency actually hinders IGF-1 formation."

If this is true would you have to buy ZMA? or could you just buy zinc supplement?

Zinc does a role in many signaling pathways, and plays a part with respect in Cytokine/Receptor function as well as various Growth Factor/receptor mRNA expression.
Similar statements could be said about many different minerals and vitamins which would have a critical effect in key areas if one were deficient.

So, unless you are severely zinc deficient, or you have grave inability to assimilate zinc from your daily diet, THIS is would be a non issue with respect to your question (IMHO).

Take Care

"...in the presence of Zn2+ (Zinc), the extracellular domain of the human prolactin receptor binds human growth hormone with up to 100-fold higher affinity than human prolactin, and 10-fold higher than human growth hormone binds to the extracellular domain of its receptor. The serum prolactin-binding protein therefore can be a potent growth hormone-binding protein..." - A serum prolactin-binding protein: implications for growth hormone, Priscilla S. Don't over supplement Zinc. As Bob said take care of a deficiency but don't invoke the law of unintended consequences.
