About 3 yrs ago I tore the tendon below my left elbow doing skullcrushers.....I eventually had surgery..What happened doing prior to and after the surgery was I continued working the rest of my muscles..This resulted in my right arm being 1" bigger then the left arm..The Tricep is what has fallen behind...How do I bring up this left tricep to match the right one?

T.O.M

You could stop training the larger tri but what I would do is reduce the work load to 1/2 of that of the weaker one. The idea is to apply enough intensity to the larger tri so that it won't atrophy but overload the smaller one and stimulate growth. Then you only need time.

I would do a set or two that uses both arms like overhead triceps extension. Then, for the rest of the workout just do one arm exercises for your weak tricep. That's what I've done for both calves and chest with great results.

WELL

WEIGHT LIFTING AND WHAT WE DO IS SYSTEMIC ALSO.......THINK ABOUT THAT AND YOU WONT BE CUTTING DOWN BY 1/2, 1/4 OR WHATEVER YOU THOUGHT YOU SHOULD DO.........PLEASE

I agree there have been a couple of times in my life when I trained one side of my body only due to delt issues....One arm Smith incline and flat benches and one arm smith shoulder presses and lost zero size on the other side....it was the only way for me to recoup from a cuff issue.
the other time I rolled my car comig back from the AAU Mr USA in Atlantic City and my elbow went through the window swelled up to 25 inches.. and I went in and did legs 3 times week and pek dek flyes nautilus shrugs ANYTHING I could do to keep my metabolism up and anabolism going-as it's total body. My doc told me it's be 8 weeks before I could use the arm again and I eased back into it in less than 3.
I also don't beleive in bringing up weak bodyparts this way...a weak bodypart will never be strong one you can certainly improve it greatly but it will never become a strong one...I remember Tom Platz almost completely cutting out leg training in 1982 and 1983 to try and bring his upper body in line with his legs and it never worked his upper body probably suffered more by removing heavy squats movements.

I agree with this. I would keep training hard period. It has been my experience that after tearing a tendon, that the muscle effected is NEVER quite the same after that. Not a reason to stop though.

It's been two yrs since the surgery...I never have added extra reps or sets to try to bring the left arm up..There must be something I can do as the two arms difference is really noticable in size. Right now there is A 1.25" DIFFERENCE AND PRIOR TO THE INJURY ONLY 1/4".

Are you right handed or left handed and what side is the injury on? Since you said it was already smaller, I'm guessing it's your weak arm. I'd start using your weak arm and to throw your body off. And I mean use it for everything - carrying groceries, lifting something into the cupboard, etc.

But I can't come close to the guys in this thread that already offered you advice.

I once read that people that trained unilaterally, the other part grew up to 25% without being worked at all. I think the person had a cast on their arm (which spawned the article). I'd start working the hell out of your weak arm. And let your body struggle with maintaining symmetry.

Yes I'm right handed and that has always been the larger and stronger arm..To bad that one wasn't the one to get injured instead of the smaller weaker one...LOL

Have a look at yates and Branch Warren. The injury shortens the muscle which reduces its size and volume for ever.Notice they still train them with a full routine though.
