I'm an amateur fighter in both thai and kick boxing and steroid use is becoming quite common in this too
the trouble lies in the really bad organisation and splits in federations and organisations as a whole, there's not one particular governing body and no regulations and testing.
Even ephedrine etc is popped before fights, what do you do as an amateur? you either join them or get beaten? and you don't know your oponent half the time before a fight, who's to say what they've done?
As for sylvia et al, the pros are doing all sorts of things. What kerr abused was not steroids but pain killers which he got addicted to but then there's still the ethical and even legal issues surrounding that.
I can't say it's easy being a fighter, and the emotions you go through pre fight time is incredible. I have a fight coming up next week and i'm not a nice person to be around at this moment haha.
