Ventrogluteal injection

So , for many reasons, I want to start using the ventrogluteal site to inject. I've read multiple descriptions, looked at reference pictures, and watched videos, but I'm still not confident that I'm locating it properly on myself? (Which is embarrassing since I work in the medical field! lol)

Anyone have a good description, or a link to a good source that gives a good picture or demonstration for SELF injecting this area?

Put your thumb on your hip bone and go about 1 inch down. My ventro glute is huge but most people can easily miss it. Use an insulin pin and you'll never want to pin anywhere else.

I do all my VG shots seated as I find it far easier to locate the proper area...this is my favorite injection site...it's an easy, pain free shot especially if seated and it can take quite a large volume.

You waste that spot with 1ml or less?

No I just pull the plug out and refill as needed. I switched to slin pins about two years ago and never looked back haha. I've actually never hit vento glutes with an actual 3ml or larger pin. They are vascular as hell and was always afraid to.

I hit ventro flutes with 3ml no problem. Very little pip in that spot...but even if iu do get some it doesn’t interfere with walking like flutes do

How far anterior/posterior do you go?

Not sure what you mean. I jab around the whole area from all angles. But if using a reg needle you would want to get close to middle as possible. Straight down midline from hip

I think when you describe the area you might see it as being more on the side of your butt, rather than in the back. It is easy to get to too.

Picture

Here is a good picture of the site, on the side as you can see. This is where I do mine TRT injections each week. 3ccs would go in there easily. Truth be told, when I was heavily into this stuff I would put 3ccs into my biceps and never had issues.

Looks like 2" posterior and 2" inferior to the ASIS.

I don't know why I'm struggling with this, I have watched tons of videos, looked at pictures but when I'm trying to visualize on my own anatomy I keep second guessing myself? I know it's on the side of the gluteus, but I can't decide how far anterior (close to hip bone) or more posterior (towards butt)

Some descriptions/videos/pics seem like almost in the hip bone, while others seem more like a side gluteal. I think I have the sup/info placement, I'm struggling with the anterior/posterior placement

This is helpful because all other illustrations I've seen have the hand reversed - as if you're administering to someone else. You can't replicate that hand position on yourself, hand doesn't turn that way. This illustration helps because you can actually place your hand this way

It just look like this location I'm going to hit the iliac bone! I think that's what's causing so much hesitation on my part?
