phil,
you need to use some sort of anti bactirial cleaner, this will protect against infections the most common being ringworm which all wrestlers get at one time or another. other than that keeping them in a warm place rolled up will make them softer. also the more you use them the softer they get.
are you coaching wrestling now or are you puttning them in your gym?

Really the only way to get them softer is to use them and like it was said above keep them rolled up in a warm place when they are not being used. If you cant roll them up thats fine too but they need to be in a warm place.
Blow dryers work if you have a good bit of time to get the mat down. If I recall you are in NY it should be warming up enough soon to roll them out pretty easily. Little space heaters work as well to warm them up a bit. If you plan on rolling them up every day to get them off the floor roll them up in opposite directions EOD will loosen them up a good bit but will break them down quicker as well.
bleach and hot water is what we used, and like the rest of the posts keep em rolled up until use but if you want them recovered it cost like$5000.00 but for the life of me I can not think of the company, but if you go to the local H.S the sports A.D could give you the company they use if ya want
