i would be considered an old timer by many on this board been lifting for almost 33 years.....i only saw this leg press machine once in my life in one gym...most leg press machines are on angle in front of us but a gym that i used to go to back in the day had a leg press machine where you would crawl underneath the press and lay on you back with the press directly over your head...you loaded the weight on top of the platform that would be directly over you layed on your back and pressed the weight directly over your body..has anyone else ever seen this machine and has anyone seen this press lately in any gym...it was quite dangerous if you got stuck or something busted on the damn thing but i loved that type of leg press machine seemed to hit the legs much better than these angled machines they have today. i havent seen one in years.
 
my understanding is they put a machine like that in the ballys in west hollywood and a bodybuilder got gang raped by tweekers and they were removed from all gyms across america.

I've got one.....Bought it off Craigs List from some older couple.... I love it.... a lil primitive but does the job....best money I ever spent.

I've seen people emulate the motion on a smith machine which is very dangerous by the way. I never understood the benefits of this piece however. I guess it's something different but, the movement seems so unnatural.
 
These are extremely common in Brazil. Most don't even have a pad for your feet. You just use the steel bar.
 
They have one in my gym as well.

I've never used it myself, but a lot of the guys who compete use it regularly.

I actually bought one from New York Barbell. It costs like $1000.00. It's certainly a good quality product.
 
My gym has one. the plates load on the top though so if your not super careful youll pinch the shit out of your fingers
 
25 yrs sago Yeagers had one.
Back when I could still squat 600lbs.
 
2 things...

1. Heavyhitter to avoid pinching put a 45 lb then a 2.5 or a 5 just to seperate plates so you can get a better grip on them so you don't slam your finger
2. Used to have at my old powerlifting gym in the 80's. They called it the Guillotine. Loved that old press. If you slid way under you cd use lots more weight but you recruited your hams,glutes and lower back a bit but if you slid away from the machine you could get a great hit in your front quads even though the weight you cd handle was a lot less.
