So pretty spring rolling around And I decide to look cool and do yard work without a shirt right. Its hard work in the gym might as well show it off with a wife beater. Not around the posion ivy. So of course they put me on oral steriods for the ivy. but makes my appetite shoot up and i have noticed at least 5lb gain and im suppose to start cutting carbs down asap. any suggestions lol

Get a lot of water retention too from that stuff.

Get "Zanfel" Stuff is amazing.
I got PI really bad, washed with Zanfel and started healing up the next day.

I used to get poison ivy every year for over 10 years. Had it everywhere. Everywhere! I ordered prednisone cream online and it worked it's magic without me having to take it orally which caused bloating, diet issues & acne breakouts.

A few good tips- wash your hands frequently so as not to spread it, keep the area it's affecting clean & don't let anything that touches it touch anythng else. The oil it gives off is highly contagious and spreads easily if it touches anything. My personal favorite way to nuke it- in the shower take burning hot water and blast it!! Sounds crazy but scratching it spreads the oils and can lead to a nasty infection called impatago (sp?). You don't want that... The hot water is very soothing & will burn it away without burning your skin.

i did a little report on poison ivy on college, for basic bio i think. i learned some interesting things about it.

the oily residue of the plant is what gives you poison ivy. according to what i have read, its the most toxic natural substance on earth!!!!!! just 2 grams of this oil would be enough to give every person poison ivy (6 billion of them)!!!!

what happens is VERY TINY amounts of this highly toxic oil get on your skin. through some weird quirk of nature, the skin and your oil chemically combine - forming a new compound (which was your skin). the body recognizes this new compound as foreign and your immune system attacks it. you immune system is now attacking your own skin! crazy

this chemically altered skin is fixed and does not spread, BUT the amount of oil needed to damage new areas of skin is so minute that scratching will spread the oil around - this is the spreading of poison ivy - its not an infectious spread like many people believe, or the spread of a living organism.

once the skin is damaged nothing will fix it but time. you can however try to cleanse your skin of any oils that havent been spread around yet. soap and water is the worst thing you can do - this spreads it all over. since the oil is not alive, you cant kill it, you must destroy it (chemically destroy it) - bleach works great for this. soak your body in a tub full of bleach water. this will destroy any 'unused' poison ivy oils - thus preventing more spreading. of course the trade off is that you will damage your skin if you soak too long.

bottom line - poison ivy SUCKS

I wouldnt want to take a bleach bath! Good info on the ivy though. I use to be allergic to it.. Had it in my eye once.
