I don't think your wrong at all. Look at the pros in the early 90s and compare them to the guys now.

Yea, he wasn't even a pro, yet he was one of the more popular names out there for a few years due to his working with Cybergenics. I was in high school during that phase in the early to mid-90's.

There is a thread here about him where I believe his sister, or somebody close to him, posted here about him in the mid to late-2000's. I may have posted the link in one of the more recent threads, but if not, I believe it's on a repost thread by Big A. There may have been 2 threads, but they were pretty cool to read at the time about his then-current status.

Back then it mattered to be ifbb pro now they give 1000000 pro cards per year

I don't think the sport has "devolved", there are just a ton of other divisions for guys to enter now so Classic pulling a lot of the guys with great genetic structure, etc.
And there were TONS of people that competed back when Frank did, that looked like absolute dogshit. You just don't see them because nobody posts them. Selection bias.

Selection bias? I disagree.You could say that about any era of bodybuilding. There's guys right now who compete that look like absolute garbage. Perhaps it's one of those 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' type of things? What one might find pleasant to the eye, the other might not and vice versa.

I mean it's rare to see people post about the guys from other eras that weren't that good. Everyone posts the "good guys" from the past and remembers how good they were. This can make previous periods look better than they were. And yes there's selection bias now too, it's everywhere.
