91 NPC Nationals Hvywt Class:Wheeler,Coleman,Levrone,Demayo

the quality of the top 5 back then was crazy  watching that vid never ever gets old :D

with all due respect to arnold and franco, lou and frank zane this was the golden age of bodybuilding., never had we seen a collection of bodybuilders like this. No disrespect to todats pro's but when you saw ronnie, shawn ray, flex wheeler, kevin levrone all onstage at one time it was just something amazing to see. Thats when bodybuilding was at its highest peak for me and will always hold a magical spot in my heart. Its when i personally got interested in bodybuilding, Kind of like the 1980's San Fran 49er's or 70's steelers in the NFL. Special times like those are rare and dont come along to often. I think any fan of bodybuilding can appreciate this group of men.

These are the days I was competing and there was just so much inspiration. I used to train in the same gym as Paul sometimes, and just seeing him motivated me so much.

for me this was the peak of the best looking physiques, as much as i appreciate arnold at his prime, there was only a few guys, as opposed to the late 80's and the time of this video, the early 90's this was just before the guts and midsections grew abnormally large. these guys in my opinion were the most ashthetically pleasing to look at while still carrying a substantial amount of muscle mass, thanks for the link.

much better quality bbrs back then...than now...imo

crazy to know the all time mr olympia leader got 4th place!

I remember watching that show when it was live on ESPN.who would have thought that Ronnie would win 8-Olympias..

It was the best era for bodybuilding.

I think it was a special time in bodybuilding, not that I remember lol (too young). The late 60's early 70's are still my favorite physiques. I think the early 90's was the best for the big men. Never have i seen a bodybuilder so polished like dorian. I always look for distention, none!

Check out the 1995 Olympia prejudging Lineup, I think between 1985-1995 was the best years. After 1995 size started to really dominate what was left of aesthetics, and size combination. Even in 95 you can start to see the size overpowering aesthetics a little on Dorian and Nasser.

**broken link removed**

1 Dorian Yates
2 Kevin Levrone
3 Nasser El Sonbaty
4 Shawn Ray
5 Vince Taylor

7 Mike Francois
8 Flex Wheeler

10 Charles Clairmonte
11 Ronnie Coleman
12 Paul DeMayo
13 Sonny Schmidt

Great clip dragon, thanks! If your 240, 250 and can't come into a contest lookin polished like that, go home!

So ESPN used to cover professional BB? When did that stop?

I was competeing that year in the Jr USA and I remember seeing Kevin Levrone vs Paul Demayo that year at the Jr Nats in Red Bank, NJ, everyone was like who is this guy Kevin Levrone, he came out of another federation and lost (barely) to Paul...then went on to win the Nats and everything else. I agree that was a good time for BB, and I'm glad I was part of it.

When competitive BB turned crap. All the main IFBB and NPC shows used to be televised live in the late '80s early '90s.

I competed in Nationals that year

I competed in Nationals that year. Little did I know that those guys would become some of the top level pros. All I knew was they looked like freaks when I was back stage pumping up with them.

It was the best era for bodybuilding.

I remember judging that era. Just the name DeMayo made everyone sit up and almost hold their breath when he came out on stage with those "QUADZILLA" mosterous quads. Same with Mattarazzo; Shawn Ray back then for his beautiful symmetry and Zane like posint..etc etc. I doubt if we will EVER see bodybiulders such as the one's from this era again....and of course PHIL H was part of this era...HUGE SIZE monsters that rocked and shocked the audience.....

Man I miss the early- mid 90's in bodybuilding!!

Mike
