First of all...thanks for this great forum. I've learned a ton just by spending some time reading through the posts here.

What's not clear to me is what exactly a "back pump" is. IN other words...what exactly happens when back pumps become a problem? It it just upper back cramping? Neck pain? Does it happen only during workouts?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

G.

I guess you're talking about painful lower back pumps caused from water retention. I get them mostly when squatting. It can be a problem because it becomes too painful to do certain exercises. Even walking is hard after doing squats, at least for me.

Thanks. I hear them mostly referred to in AAS discussions, and with reference to taurine use as a treatment.

I was curious about these myself, until I went to the gym and did some deadlifts after using something that supposedly causes horrible "lower back pumps," and it felt worse than soreness, it felt like a hottish pain that caused significant discomfort went I bent over. I think this is a lower back pump, but if that's a good enough description, maybe someone will chime in and say if it is, or not. I was worried that I injured myself, except that I did nothing differently in my form/technique... the only thing that changed was that chemical, so I suspect that's what caused it, and hence, what a "lower back pump" feels like, to me. They suck. I dumped the chemical and said "hasta la vista, baby" arnold style after doing it. I've felt fine ever since.

I had the same issue while taking a certain supplement. Bent over rows, deads. squats, etc, forget about it. The pain simply wasn't worth it. Once I discontinued, no more pain and back to normal workouts. Hell, even doing household choirs was difficult...

all the back pumps and lower back pain are usually as a result of the orals. but for me the effectiveness of the orals is always well worth the short term discomfort. no pain, no gain.

agreed... To help with them try around 6 grams of taurine and up your water intake a lil...

i had the huge pain in my lower back and seriously had to lay flat on the bench for a few mins for them to go away..i could barely walk..damn that was painful
