AAS/Prohormone use in college gyms??

I got this idea from another thread (the one on transformations over the years w/ AAS vs. prohormones) and one guy mentioned prohormone use in his college gym.

I'm just curious to know how prevelant AAS and/or prohormones are for college kids... I just graduated and while I was a pretty big dude (6'2 220-230 - not really big but compared to your average asshole you could tell I worked out) I was no where near the biggest and between all of the drinking, bad food, and odd schedule really didn't make any huge gains over the years (some decent gains but nothing outstanding... a little more mass here and there). I've also been natural my entire life (I'm too underdeveloped to use... plenty of room left to explore my genetic ceiling). Some of the guys however got pretty jacked after 4 years... there were some of the frat boy types that had blown up over a summer or pretty quickly and would be pretty big and lean... not huge or anything by bodybuilding standards but decently built.

So does anyone has any anecdotal evidence of steroids having popularity in the college crowd - I'm focusing this more towards the recreational lifter crowd... not athletes or serious bodybuilders...

i workout on campus at a major university. i've been goin to the gym for about 3 years and can say that ive seen maybe 3 guys (besides me) who look like they cycle, train, diet correctly. other than that, im not impressed with anyones physique...even after seeing the same ppl everyday for years there are only few who have shown any improvement.

O/T, but i laugh at every prick i see that is in the gym 3x a week and only does chest. yeah they can bench 400lbs, but i bet they couldnt squat the bar

depends on cash flow man......your broke ass 19yo is gonna save his last ten bucks for beer, and I don't blame him.

your well to do kid, with a generous bankroll for a college student is going to get shit if he has the desire for that look.

I cycled in college.....sometimes it was test only(all i could afford) but i was almost always on something. when i could afford to add deca....I blew up fast....that was about once a year.

Personally I think your outlook is A+. At least you have the common sense to know you should get to your maximum genetic potential before ever using any type of AAS. Keep the same frame of mind and you will succeed in the gym. Just my opinion.

I think it varies, schools in Texas and Florida, I think you are gonna see a lot of big guys. FSU, Texas Tech, Texas State, Texas kinda come to mind.

no time like the present to start training seriously big dog!!! hit it hard!! stay natural for a couple more years and you will look so much better, wish i would have!!

When I was in college, I was still practically a pencil neck geek, but I remember going for the summer to do an internship in graphic design. There was one guy in the graphics lab in the landscape design program who I remember was decently built (naturally or so I thought), probably had 16" arms. When I came back in September, all the regular faces were back including this guy, except he now looked like he was built like a bodybuilder to me. He had gone from being a slim muscle guy to a huge muscle guy in three months. The change was very drastic. He had to have gained 30-40 lbs (or more) in that short of a time frame, and I don't think he was any older than 20 years old. That was pretty much the first guy I had seen to be fully on AAS in college besides the football players. I wonder now thinking back on it if he messed himself up or kept it and continued or whatever.

I use aas and i am in college I do not go to the gym there so i could not tell you if there are a lot of guys there that use. But some of my close friends do use and they are all around my age.

very prevelant...I dint know it until i finally told my roomies I was gonna run a PH cycle...then the truth comes out! All 3 of em had cycled! Too bad I was still bigger before I touched any of it!haha They were/are idiots about it tho, i think its pretty common and guys jsut dont know what theyre doin so they dont get near the results as we do in this community!

I was in a frat at a medium sized school on the east coast. A ton of guys had used. I know at the major Arizona and California colleges a lot of people use....

I'm in college, and it's actually pretty prevelent. Guys are starting a lot younger these days. Still i know few guys that are serious about their diet, including myself. A lot of blowin up, and getting small again

Very interesting, thanks for the responses... I guess it was kind of a stupid question but seriously, I would go to the gym and see these guys and I would be like "how the hell can you look that drinking 2-4 nights a week"? They may not have drank 2-4 nights a week... for all I know they may not have been drinking at all and were getting 6 meals a day, 8 hours of sleep a night, and were following carefully crafted workout plans. They may have had great genetics... or years of training, or some combination of factors that allowed them to become what they were. Certainly it wasn't steroids alone that created their results... I've been around long enough to at least know that.

Ultimately it isn't that important since it isn't my business... and, I try not to compare myself to others and I do things for my own reasons... after all I should be looking to live my life, not others.

Perhaps I was asking in order to make my own expectations more "realistic"? To somehow justify mediocre results? To be perfectly honest I disagree, I don't justify my results (or lack thereof) on that basis... I think that there are a lot of pieces to my personal equation that need to get balanced before I truly see the gains that I know I am capable of.

Luckily, I am in a position where I have begun to do that... the structure of working life is so much better for me and the fact that I have managed to avoid consuming massive quantities of alcohol every weekend has made such a difference. People comment how I've lost weight (and I wasn't fat to begin with) and it is bizarre... the changes have been relatively minor, but finally I am in a position to take all of the knowledge I've gained from here and my experiences and apply it in earnest.

i know a kid who went away to school as a swimmer barely lifted was 6'3" at about 175, honest truth. I stoped by his house and saw mdrol container in his bag, so i asked if he had tried it, and what kinda supplement is that. Hes not very bright so i wanted to hear what he would say i already knew it was a superdrol clone.. a good one at that. Anyways he responds its an alright supplement, all it does is help me swim a little faster and get another rep or two on bench. lol i couldnt help myself i had to ask what his bench was, on a lucky day he can do 165 for 6 he said. I feel bad for these kids messing up there endocrine system for little to no gains, most have terrible diets and it shows.

more use than you would think. i went to a D2 school not on the coast and can say that I know of about 20ish that have used something and about 10 of em dont look like it cuz they eat ramen noodles, mac & cheese, and drink 4 nights a week...some played ball, some didn't

Once I got into juice in college, I realized that ALL of the guys you're talking about were juicing.

It was EXTREMELY prevalent where I went to school...

There is a lot of juicing in my college gym, but like many of you said there is only a handful of other guys besides myself that you can actually tell make it a lifestyle rather than just eating a pb and j before bed while ON...

AAS in College

Alot of guys use Quick acting Stuff. I have been there and I would rather have Guys/ Girls pick up some Gear rather than a Bottle. Just ask how many campus docs/nurses did intakes on Test Victims rather than Drunk Dui death victims.

I believe your story and I'm sure there are other swimmers like this guy but I swam in college and only lifted to build muscle endurance at the time and I could close grip bench that at 155 lbs. So, "Yes" I feel very sorry for that guy.

im only familiar with texas schools and its pretty common here. Seems like more otc designers though.
