Is it possible to be at the right ph level while following a high protein diet with lots of animal proteins?

Would eating plenty of alkalinizing foods help to keep a bodybuilder healthy? ie Stronger immune system, Better digestion, Energy Levels etc

Just curious if anybody else bothers, or you just down plenty of multi-vitimin & multi-mineral tablets?

This idea of body pH adjusting has been touted for awhile, but I find it hard to accept.

Yuor kidneys (longer term over days) and lungs (immediate term by adjusting CO2 levels) work really hard to maintain BODY pH at 7.4.

Yuo can acidify or alkylnise URINE, bodyt body pH rarely deviates from 7.4. Yuo get body pH to 7.44 or 7.36 (if I remember the numbers correctly), yuo cause the kidney's to go nuts trying to straighten this out.

I didn't track my ph level though.

Thanks Lynx

So in the end you didn't try to avoid acidic foods or track your ph, but you did try to comsume lots of alkanizing foods/products?

Im still trying to find the right diet for my body. I grow and feel my best when Im at my healthiest which is definitly related to my diet. I eat lots of greens and good fats all year round. Just a little unsure about fruits, which I tend to avoid because of the high sugar content.

Do a google search for some posts by a certain Dr Torsten Albers. He coaches some German bodybuilders. I don't know if his ideas have merit though, just remembered this person discussing it. He said potatoes is the best alkalizing food. Then add supplements of citrate forms of minerals and check morning urine PH to adjust the dose.

Get the book Alkalize or Die: Books: Theodore A. Baroody

I have don this type of diet when I was doing a 30 day detox of my entire body. It does work and you do feele better.

Potatos are not that alkanizing their peels are.

Apple cider vinger is very alkanizing. Taking it 3 times a day, with green vegetables and green food supplements is a good start.

Friuts the highest alakanizing are watermelon and cantalope.

Cesium/rubidium and potassium has been reported to be used in high dosages to kill tumors and other ailamnets in the body.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL BECAUSE IF YOU START PLAYING DOCTOR AND MANIPULATING YOUR POTASSIUM YOU ARE ASKING FOR A FEW PEOPLE DROPPING DEAD. TONS OF POPULAR MEDS OUT THERE ARE POTASSIUM SPARING SO CHECK IT OUT FIRST. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR HAS TONS OF POTASSIUM IN IT.

Spinach?

The first thing that jumped out at me on the "alakanizing" side of the charts was Spinach, I love it and have always eaten it for its fibre and taste when dieting. I always have so much more energy when I diet for a show and I never get sick. Fruit is something I have alot to learn about as I have always been told to stay away from the high sugar etc.

Its obviously not as simple as eating one or two items to keep the balance as there are so many other factors. Potassium is something I hadn't thought about.

I have always considered food to the be the most anabolic part of puzzle, so much more to it than just protein, carbs and fats.

Thank you for the replies, I will find: Alkalize or Die: Books: Theodore A. Baroody, and start reading. Dr Torsten Albers has some interesting ideads, and Im still ploughing thru all the Vince Gironda information/books I can find.

Right, I didn't track ph levels or did I even know about being alkaline or acidic. I did eat lots of chicken and steak (acidic), 320 grams/day  split between 4 meals and protein powder the other two meals. I just looked back on what I was eating (and not eating) and it was all pretty much alkaline except for the meat.

Personally I wouldn't worry about fruit too much. The only time I back off fruit is pre-contest. I believe BigA's diet thread in the Articles section advocates apples due to their fiber content.

I've talked to my chiro about getting your body into a more alkaline state during my ART sessions with him. He's currently taking a vitamin mixture that is treating him very well. He gave me the contact information since I expressed interest in it. I wanted to research it a little more before I give anything a try.

And like dragonfire101 I took/take apple cider vinegar but in capsule form. :)

TRUE, that stuff gets complicated. I uselly added in sodium bicarbinate to try and balance the sodiun/potassium ratio to 2/1, when I do and alkannizing diet, alot of the self help books don't explain in detail how this stuff works. Alot of theses books are claiming are diets are actaully to high in sodium and recommend salt substitues which is actually postassium chloride AKA "NO SALT" is what they sell at the grocery store.

Allegedly alot of these natural doctors think potassium ration should be opposit and be potassiun/salt 2/1 this how the human diet was in the days of the hunter/gathers.

What kind of vitamin mixture?

I was/am very interested in the acid/alkaline type diets. i believe raisins were the most alkaline fruit on the "potential renal acid load" scale, along with spinach of course. i do know that the alkalinity benefits of potatoes is due to potassium again near the skin...

however i would likt o hear phil elaborate on the dangers of potass manipulation, as i was considering getting large quantity potass citrate to heolp the kidneys regulate salt/BP levels.

is this misguided???

is the potass manip only a prob if using potsss affectin meds????

What kind of vitamin mixture?

I'm not sure yet, the information is at home...sitting...waiting for me to look at it.

Excess of anything is always bad for health so it's better to take a small amount of alkaline food in a diet.
