Hey Fellas,
I have been a member of this board for years and as you can see by the number of post, I do a lot more reading then posting. I think this may be helpful to some of you that have allergies or chronic sinus problems....
This all came to a head last year after two bouts of pneumonia and a 4 day stay in the hospital with Mastoiditis. Mastoiditis is an infection of the Mastoid process via. the middle ear.
Anyway, I have always fought bad sinuses. Probably 15 years ago i got checked for allergies and of course had them but the shots were just a hassle. So, I continued with my ENT and tons of antibiotics and other drugs to control my constant infections. I even had a my sinus cavity surgically cleaned out a few years back. I typically got a sinus infection about once every two months and would always require antibiotics to clean it up. I trusted my ENT and believed he knew what he was talking about when he steered me away from an allergist.
I was wrong. After the stay in the hospital and talking to a bunch of other docs, I decieded an allergist was worth a try. Since I started almost a year ago, I have not even had a stuffy nose....and no drugs what so ever.
I am not bashing ENT's, but I think he thought of me as an experiment rather than a patient. Just because you don't have ichy eyes or sneeze all the time doesn't mean you don't have allergies. When your allergies effect your sinuses and cause excessive mucus production that is a breeding ground for infections.
Just my experience, I know I am not the only one that has fought this. I am an NPC competitor and Judge and I can't tell you how good it feels not to have the sinus problems ruining my training.
