Any ideas on what I did to my knee?

Hey gang, about 4 months ago I was squatting, not too heavy, up to around 300lbs...anyway, had the same workout I've had for the last 20 or so years..nothing notable happened..no pop's or intense pain, nothing that would indicate an injury.

Took a shower, went for about a 2 mile walk with my wife. Come home, sit down, watch tv..notice my knee is sore...WTF?

Well, I figure I've pulled/inured just about every other body part except my knees...probabably pulled something or overdid it a bit...never felt a pop or any weird pains that would indicate an injury, just soreness later in the evening.

I've never ever felt any pain in my knees as long as I can remember and I stay pretty active..anyway..4 months go by and it's not getting better...if I try to go for a walk my knee hurts that evening when I'm in bed..It feels hot is the best way I can describe it...also, the joint feels weird, like its not sitting in it's joint right..I can get around with a limp and I've been wearing an ace bandage.

I've kind of been researching this trying to figure out wtf is wrong with my knee...From what I can gather it seems like it may be a torn meniscus as from what I can tell if you tear your acl you usually have intense pain from the initial tear. I have to guess I injured it squatting that day and it looks like the meniscus is usually injured in a squatting position.

Anybody have any thoughts on what it may be? I've got an appt with an ortho surgeon on Aug 10th and I anticipate that whatever it is will require surgery which I'm not too happy about...Oh well, thanks in advance for any advice.

Steve

My roommate just tore his this past weekend...it was a mild tear, but he can walk on it, but when he sits down, is when the pain sets in. you might have a small tear or maybe over use??

see what the DOVC says...if it isn't a torn, I would suggest taking some time off to let your body recover. a good break is what the body needs every 7 to 12 months.

DEMAND an MRI before allowing exploritory scope if its suggested. Knee doc's like to scope as they can bill for it vs the MRI and both should be covererd by your insurance. If it did not hurt when you injured it it does not seem it could be too serious but maybe an old injury coming back to haunt ya. Good luck.

Sounds more like just a very tight tendon.

Get an MRI and if it's not torn, get some deep tissue work.

hey ..

i have had the same problem for year snow and it came down to a few things..
1)...a microtear ...i do not think so
2)... an old injury aggrivated by the squat..i do not think so
3)... a very tight tendon pulling your kneecap to one side, probley the outside of your leg...very,very possible
4)...miniscus strain and i am not sure if your still training legs or not but it will not heal if you are..

Like BIG A said...get an MRI never a scope and whatever the MRI reveals will take the guess work out, but i just went and got a deep tissue massage done and after 3 visits i was back to 90% within a 1-2 weeks...never guess and wait and see what happens with a injury...get it checked out fast and start repairing and rehabing the injury...good luck bro

the massage works

I have had knee pain since high school. I have had every picture imaginable taken of my knee and never a showing of a tear. I too started going to deep tissue massage when it flares up and everytime it seems to take the pain away (i also don't train it during those weeks). worth a shot

MRI

Get the MRI done, My doc ran an x-ray on my knee and he tried to say that my outer quad was over developed and pushing my patella over wich was causing the pain in my knee "so I thought it was my knee" A few more weeks go by and there is still pain. I even tried an accupuncturist. Had an MRI done and to find out there was nothing wrong with my knee, I tore my quadercep tendon that inserts to the top of the patella, That was causing my knee pain. Luckly no surgery is neeeded just time off, and alot of beer. I guess what I am saying is like the other boyz mention go with the MRI.

Esta Laterz................

MRI

One more thing to add, At least I know I was training hard enough while preparing for my contest. (LOL)
