Ok, so....At work im like the "posterboy" for lifting. keep in mind im the only one there who actually works out so theres really not alot of competition. And im definately obsessed by it like all of you are, so i tend to talk about it ALOT! Well the thing im kind of getting tired of is its starting to turn into a circus, with me as the center ring. every time i eat theres always someone making a comment about how often i eat and how much, or people constantly asking questions about weightloss or lifting. and when i get the all important question from a 17 yr old bus boy or even a 30 yr old bartender " what do i have to do to look like you?" and i explain that they need to go hit the gym, train right, diet properly, get enough rest, not drink every weekend, quit smoking, learn what intensity means in the gym, and keep all that up for 10 years. they respond with some stupid comment referring to theyre lack of decipline to actually accomplish that, and procede to ask about some useless product they saw at GNC or about steroids. Most of the time i just tell them to get back to work, but yesterday......I was in the wrong mood and kind of let loose on someone. A co worker was talking about how theyre going to loose all this weight and get a 6 pack and gain all this muscle for the summer(yes this summer!) and thats when i lost it. i proceded to tell him, not in the most professional manner and certainly not the nicest one either, that"Listen tubby....your sucking down a cheese steak with fries and as soon as your done your gonna go have a cigarrette. theres now way in hell that you will ever , ever be in any kind of shape other than round, your not going to workout, your not going to watch what you eat, and that "hot chick" youve been trying to nail will continue to completely ignore your existance because you dont have the dicipline to even show up to work on time on a regular basis let alone do what it takes to get in shape. so stop talking about it, go smoke, and make sure all your tables are taken care of!" I know....harsh and probably not the right thing to do. Im just really fed up that noone will ever accept the truth! thanks for listening to me rant guys. by the way feel free to post any similar stories, id love to hear how you guys handle it.

Breathe brother
Good air in - Bad air out...
Those folks are everywhere my friend (family, work ect.)

Ok this is what I think but I have been told it is wrong, you guys be the judge. Before I get started let me ask you a question, when you were a kid most of you were disciplined in one way or another whether it be by a spanking (I said spanking, not beating) this was the most effective way for me as a kid, lecture, grounding, etc.... Some adults need this also. A good lecture and blunt honesty may be just what the guy needed to get off the couch eating McDonald's. I wasn't there so I can't say if you crossed the line but it could have rung a bell in his mind and now he will work out.

Luckily I don't have that problem at work. The only comment I hear is when something heavy needs to be moved they come get me and say follow me we need some strength. Some times it's nice being around old people.

Just ignore these people, I have been in the game for 10 years now I'm so used to this shit. I never talk about training or my diet unless its relevant to the situation or unless its to some one with the same interest. A lot of my friends are into it with, a lot were motivated by me and I inspired them to get into it. I won't give any one help or advice unless I detect they are 100% serious, if I have a hunch they won't commit if it some random person I'm not really friends with I will just blow there questions off. I'll usually explain that they shouldn't even worry about it unless they want to change their entire life's routine for good, and I'll say your not going to be able to do that unless you have some extreme desire that constantly nags at you to make a change in your life, so if you don't have that, don't even worry about it.

Although I understand where your frustrations come from...

I don't necessarily agree with the way you handled the situation. As a former personal trainer, I thrived on the fact that I was literally "changing lives". I'm sure you weren't always the "magnificently sculpted" example of a human being you are today, were you? You had to have gotten started somewhere? Why not next time you instead degrading whoever "pisses you off with nonsense", educate him/her. Granted not everyone will adhere to your words of wisdom, but the handful that do will surely appreciate it for life. You might actually get some pleasure from knowing they will, too! :fo:d-smil

don't take it seriously, bro.
the fitness industry has turned into a "buy this and you'll be set" kind of thing. and you know how people are. in anything other than bodybuilding and nutrition, i'd probably be suckered in just like these folks. so when they read in a magazine to do 500 sit ups everyday and eat celery and cucumbers all day to get a ripped six pack, drink a protein shake once a day to gain 50 lbs of muscle in 2 weeks, they'd believe it. you can't blame them. the media has twisted this thing up so bad, no one knows the truth anymore.

but my advice, just joke about it and don't take it seriously. if he says that and he's eating a steak sandwich and he's at 35% fat, just say "don't forget to wash it down with some green tea, it'll give you the six pack you wanted in less than a month" and give out a sarcastic laugh. and when people who you know are not serious about lifting or dieting ask you for advice, just say "cell tech, bro. couldn't have done it without that stuff" and give out a laugh to show them that you're sarcastic.
i do this most of the time, then later on in the day, that person comes to me ALONE in my office and we talk. when that happens, i explain it to them in a professional manner and they're all ears.

i don't think you can really get angry over this...

"so i tend to talk about it ALOT!"

these people are just probably just trying to make conversation. if you made an effort to display other facets of your personality, they would relate to you differently.

i tend to cover up and not discuss lifting. this takes the focus off of me, and lets me learn more about the people around me. life is just more interesting that way.

I think it may have been exactly what he needs to hear... the truth. It may have been a shock but that is what people need, good honest, no bull, truth. Two things that irritate me is everytime i go to a dealership there is always those couple of guys that "use to lift and was huge". Give me a break, if they were that big and consistent they would still be in the game. The other thing is how people bash using gear. I know everybody doesnt but the people that use and the naturals are still busting there ass. They both have the attitude and integrity gear or not. If your on you have to work hard, eat right and be dedicated. If you are natural then the same still applies. I give props to both sets of people, gear or not.

I live the Cubicle life at work. It's the anti-christ of bodybuilding if you didn't know. I keep my mouth shut about anything bodybuilding related. I've opened way too many cans of worms and it gets old real quick.

Man can I ever relate to this!

It's crazy how after i finish lifting, I might bullshit with whoever's in the gym and they're like man I eat a shit ton and still can't gain weight.......................................I ask how many meals are you eating a day and they reply with 3 BIG MEALS.......I almost want to laugh but I just keep it moving.

And because my camp is so small, when the post exchange gets a new shipment of creatine, protein, and ECA's, I swear all that stuff gets bought up within two days tops.

It's also crazy how people think that just taking an ECA alone will make them ripped.

Or better yet, the guys that look at you in an odd way because as soon as you finish your workout, you go right over to your bag and drink you PWO shake. I swear i haven't seen one person to do that since I've been at the place. Then because my PWO doesn't look red, purple, or some other creatine looking color, they ask me what I'm taking. When you tell them it's just malto, protein, and a ALA capsule, they're like what the fuck does that do on top of the fact they're so shocked because it's not creatine.

Or when you have random cats on both side of you running the treadmill and they see you have been "walking" for about 45 minutes and they have the nerve to tell you that you'll burn more fat if you run!......then I go: so that's why you look the way you do right?

Then as soon as they leave the gym, their right in the chow hall eating straight shit food.

I'm Definitely not perfect and have been guilty of doing some of the same things years ago until I educated myself other than reading Muscle mags.

Thank God For forums!

So yeah in a nutshell I know how you feel.

that "hot chick" youve been trying to nail will continue to completely ignore your existance because you dont have the dicipline to even show up to work on time on a regular basis let alone do what it takes to get in shape. so stop talking about it, go smoke, and make sure all your tables are taken care of!"

Now that part was funny! lol :D

You'll get used to it bro... at least you stand out among that mass of "happy to be chubby" people :p Still better than being ignored, no? ;)

I was just about to say the same thing... there's always some comercial about some ab machine or bowflex, showing some model with a decent amount of muscle and saying they got that way with just 30 mins a day

The media want's people to think it is easy... don't blame the poor fool

same thing happends here man, i took the time to write out an email explaining how to find their resting metabolic rate, how to log their food intake, what to do as far as workouts, how often, diets, and how the fat loss pills and drugs at gnc and walmart are crap. As soon as i sent this email out to everyone who asked, no one bothers me again as they are all still the same size a year later.

Make some money bro.... I have like a 10 page document i wrote out for a young kid about 3 years ago.. He paid me $50 for it.. It has all the basics about nutrition, lifting, and best supplements... I update it every year with little bits of new info.. Now i sell it for $100.. Im sure you spend numerous hours reading and learning... You'd be surprised how many people will pay for that information, that you consider very basic and fundamental...
