Anyone here spectating/competing in the Jax Physique?

Just curious. I'm from Jacksonville myself, and remember this event through my teens, but it died about 10 years ago. Now Dexter is bringing it back (Marcus Haley and Lee Banks are going to guest pose, too), and I'm wondering who here knows about it and it planning on watching or even competing this weekend. I imagine the caliber of the athletes will be much higher now with this level of sponsorship and reknown, and I'm hoping to be able to make it there from Atlanta this weekend.

I'll be at pre-judging. (I'm going to the AMA Supercross at the stadium later that night. I use to be a pro motocross rider)

Anyway, I think the level of competion is not going to be that great. They didn't get a good jump start on planning/promoting this year. Plus it's a Level 2 show, which is only the surrounding counties. Not saying we don't have great bodybuilders in this area, but the good ones are national level. So they aren't able to compete in a "Level 2" show.

Good point. I was thinking that the added recognition would help, but who knows, it is a very limited geographical area.

I won this show in 97'.....

This was my first show in 1990 and I won the LWH class. However, I was beat out for the overall by none other than Dexter Jackson and he was a Batam-weight. I haven't gotten over that since.... not really. DJ and I have been friends since our first show and I still remind him of how small he was back then. He called and told me he was reviving this show just a few days after he won the Mr. O. I am glad he is bringing the flavor back to Jville. BTw... Lee Labrada is from here also, but he hasn't done anything as far as BB goes for the city.

Did I mention....

Lee Banks, who is guest posing, is my nephew. I am looking forward to going back to Vegas again this year. Hopefully, the pro card will be obtained this time around.

Cool, it's good to hear from you in this thread! I'm really glad it's being resurrected myself, it's just too bad I live almost 7 hours away now

Really? Lee Leebrada is from Jax? A good friend of mine that was owner/operator of the two World's Gym's here in town (Jax). He managed Lee Labrada's gyms in Texas years ago, and he's never told me Lee was from here. I have to ask him about that. I thought he was from Cuba and now lives in Texas.
