i think a lot of people overlook the simple warning signs of health problems, monitering your blood pressure is one of the most important! i will reae mine every morn and directly after training.....

if you dont have one of these at home, i would highly reccomend buying one... this is like the one i have, you will probably have to buy a larger sleeve also...
its pretty easy to use for those of you that have not used one on your own befor, you just push a button and it inflats the cuff and 30 seconds later you have your reading...it will also tell you your pulse....

Great idea keeping an eye on your BP at all times. For those not able to find a unit with a larger arm cuff, there are several of the wrist cuff units out there that are also very good.

I bought one of the wrist ones.

IT was not accurate. Sometimes normal. Most of the time it gave a false "high" reading. I tested it on a few people. I took it back.

I think I am going to buy one with the arm cuff.

Nice deal, but my Dr. says the digital are inaccurate, readings can be altered by small movements.

A standard cuff can be used with out a stethoscope by marking Systolic when you " feel " the pulse in your cuffed arm . . . slowly release pressure and wait until you can no longer " feel " the pulse of blood flow. It is at that point you mark diastolic.

I've been using this method for years and come with in a pt or two of my Dr's readings. Very effective / accurate.

But that one only goes up to a 17" arm. This one is a better price, but is manual and goes up to 17.7" arm **broken link removed**

very good suggestion km2000. This is very simular to the one I have. Everyone should spend the few bucks and monitor their BP at home. Very important and very easy to do. The wrist models are not very accurate my doc tells me. Just make sure you get the large cuff. Not all models have that.

I find a wrist one to be accurate and easy to use, I would not get a standard cuff on my arm.

I personally take my manually with a large cuff. All you need is the stethoscope and a cuff. A lot cheaper and more accurate this way too. Much more accurate. Thats why doctors offices still do it the old fashioned way. Cant beat it.

It's crossed my mind to purchase one, this thread probaly just tipped the scale.

High BP runs in my family and I'm no spring chicken. The gh seems to increase the BP on me. My aas doses are low enogh that I doubt that it has much effect.

For the guy's here, I would think it very important!

Real LIfe Experiences...

IN the Cardiac Care Unit of my hospital, my blood pressure was taken with a automatic cuff unit for five days, every 45 minutes. I had a manual one taken twice.

I also took my home unit, to the cardiologist on Wednesday, took my pressure with it, then the nurse took it manually. Extremely close on BP and pulse. I also asked the Cardiologist and he said they were now suprisingly good. I believe the key is correct application and use of the unit

Caveat: Was hard to find unit with 19 inch cuff. If you use a pulse detecting unit, easiest to use your left arm. keep arm at level of heart if possible.

Nice point, Maldorf. . . cuff size is VERY IMPT!!! If you've been training for sometime and have earned a decent size arm, you need the larger cuffs ( even if you can wrap within the small cuffs range ( It's printed on the inside of medical grade BPc's.)

Fuck the digital monitors. If you want a stethoscope, you can spend your money on it, but it's not needed.

Well, i was talking about reading the pressure on your own, and not using one of those automatic units. You do have to use a stethoscope for that to hear the sounds. If anyone is interested in knowing what to listen for I can post that, its real easy to learn how to do.

WE HAVE ONE MADE BY AMRON.

IT'S EXCELLENT. YES, BUY THE BIG CUFF. MY MOM WAS AN EMT...SHE HAS THE MANUAL ONE WITH THE STETHOSCOPE AND LITTLE HAND PUMP...WE COMPARE THE READINGS WHEN I AM HOME...NO PROBLEMS....THE MACHINE IS VERY ACCURATE, SIMPLE TO OPERATE.

JUST GET A GOOD ONE.

Yeah, ive heard the newer ones are good, but I still dont trust a machine to do it when I can do it myself. For the average Joe though, its probably a better way to go. The old manual way I do it though is less expensive too.

I bought my dad a blood pressure monitor for Christmas one year. Him and my my two sisters have high blood pressure. He usually checks it everyday.
