Blood sugar - odd?

Got a at home glucose monitor (finger prick)

My fasting sugars are usually are 5-5.2
Hb1ac is around 4.9-5

my postprandial 2 hours however is always in the low 4's even after heavy carby meals, this seems a bit odd?

My Hb1ac is fine and my postprandial seems actually quite good? But my fasting sugars are on the higher side...what gives

When people diet hard and get pretty damn lean you will often see this. My last prep my fasting glucose was high and ketones were super fucking high.
There is also dawn phenomenon so wait a while after waking to test your blood sugar. When the body is in a pretty large energy deficit (low calories with low bodyfat) this can be expected.

I was using a glucose meter to test am glucose because I was concerned gh use may be reducing insulin sensitivity. I'd get numbers like 90, 120, 100, 85, 115..all over the place. Then I got real lab work, always in the high 70s or low 80s. A1c is always slightly below reference range.

My concussion is that it was the dawn phenomenon as bboy said and meter's aren't necessarily accurate. I would get ,90, poke a different finger, get 115. I tried 2 different meters that have good reviews and both gave me very different readings a minute apart.

Happens to me as well.

I had the same issue. 105-120 in the morning when I wake up but 2 hours after a 100g carb meal it would be 85-95.

This is normal in a non diabetic person.

Meals make your parasympathetic nervous system kick in, so energy is going to digestion and recovery. Liver is absorbing glycogen, not releasing it.

On waking your cortisol levels are higher and your fight or flight response is on, so liver dumping glucose into bloodstream giving higher reading.
