bob chic. almost died yesterday at the san fran show, apparently suffered total internal organ shutdown and is recovering in the hospital. was also mentioned that his potassium level was so high he could have had a heart attach at anytime.

I dont think its just for the $500.00 prize money. I believe its a passion. I am willing to bet that he feels like me and does whatever it takes or will take to be at the top of his sport being the best he can be. In my opininon that requires taking risks because if you dont the next guy is and only the best make any money. MM

bob chic. unbelievable. no chance of making a living at this sport, a mediocre physique to show for all these years on gear and continues to risk his life "to be at the top". the top of what....a grave. get real dude. bodybuiliding isn't like playing golf or basketball till you are old just because you love it and not for the paycheck. you are risking your life as you get ready for each show and if all you have to look forward to is placing out of the money cause your physique just "aint it" who the hell you kidding? get a day job.

lucrative deals dont mean shit if you have an extended hospital stay. i deal with cancer patients for a living, and for 5 days of treatment the average bill is 35,000 before insurance...

if bob needs any kind of cardio work or whatever done on him surgeons, especially specialists, are going to go through that money real quick

MM-I know he has other reasons, beyond the measly money.
The passion is what drives us all. It just a comment on the hard work and risks taken in the sport, and the comparison of a professional income and benefite (i.e.- none).

Chic was one of the few pros who talked to us like we were human beings. Liked the guy, plus he was very well spoken. Hope he gets better and realizes that the sport is not worth dying for.

He may not be OK. A friend of mine Lauren Powers, Mrs Muscle Beach., just left his hotel room. He is talking about never being able to compete again. He was minutes away from death. He looked great at the Arnold but was trying to string two contests only a week apart is crazy. Wish him well.

I don´t get it really. Guys were hard and defined in the 80:is and they did´nt die. Alot of the guys these days seem to rely alot more on diuretics to get in shape. Is it that much harder to dial in more mass?
