Love him or hate him-his statement last night will hopefully open some eyes and ears. He is certainly in the national spoghtlight, and everything he says is big news in the media.

Quoted from my AM newspaper:

With Congress continuing to investigate steroid use in baseball and other professional sports, Bonds suggested the nation should focus on more serious issues - like the devistation caused by Hurrican Katrina.
"There are still other issues that are more important. RIght now people are losing lives and dont have homes and thats a little more serious...a lot more serious" Bonds said before the game.

Score one for Mr Bonds, who homered in the game also, #706 lifetime, 8 behind Babe Ruth. Im not a Bonds fan, but I a fan of these statements.
Continue to shoot your mouth off, big Barry!

Hahaha, I Like him.
He hates the media and I cant hardly blame him.

die hard fan

i have been a barry bonds fan for years. mainly because there is nothin phony about what he sais. true he has not admitted to using steroids. but really think about it, do any of us admit to a bunch of strangers either? he shoots from the hip and he said last night what a hole lot of people are thinking. GET OVER IT! there are much more important things in the world. because really, your average american really could care less if a bunch of ballplayers are using

like i have said a thousand times over...steroids do not make you a home run hitter....god given talent and hard work does. bonds has been back for like a week and already has 3. look at giambi-he hit more HR in a month this year than ever before. andruw jones has a career year. the list goes on and on.

Steroids don't help hit HR's?

Have you looked at this year's total home runs in comparison to the last 8 years?

Also, have you guys heard that Bonds is already saying that he has to lose
25 lbs to "protect his knees"?

what?
sorry i just didnt get it at the first time, could you please help me understand what are you saying?
thank you.

JERRY,

I think he is saying look at the total homeruns over the past 8yrs(steroid years), and look at the total this year(the year of hard testing).

Yeah steroids will help with recovery through the hard 160 game season, but it will not improve hand eye cordination....yes AAS and other things will help you build a more powerful body, in turn that power will allow the ball to travel farther...but it will not allow you to make better contact.

bonds

Well I was a bonds fan at a young age -- he was left handed (like me) fast, and confident. I have only been to 1 major league game and it was in SF they were playing the Cinc. Reds, I remember seeing bonds hit TWO bombs in that game, I also saw Deon Sanders with his miniscule ankles flying around the outfield faster than greased lightening lol, and I also saw Ron Gant -- gee the guy had huge arms.

I figured Bonds would come back only if he knew he was "BONDS" as in only if he knew he would be producing the #'s he produces when healthy. And so this is no big surprise.

I think AAS does not make too much of a diff.. might make you faster, but I bet GH does a lot more for a baseballer than juice....

the total number of HR is down...i dont know by how much but i do know that some big names were hurt this year that have hit a ton in the past-sosa, giambi missed half the year, griffey just got his swing back half way through the year, sheffield has been hurt, bonds hasnt played hardly, vlad has had a down year, chipper jones missed a lot of the season, rolen has missed a ton of games and even guys like nomar who will hit about 30 has been out all season. i know i am missing some. thats just to name a few. add those up and it will make a difference. does anyone know what the difference is from last year so far? i know jones, soriano, and lee are having career years-without AAS(supposedly)

i knew what he ment very first time,i just wanted to hear it from him.but i just dont want to believe that aas will help you with hitting HR,yes you can hit harder thats for sure, but i dont think if you start takeing aas you will hit just because of that, this is how it sounded when he wrote that.
its not too many guys who is hitting those 30 40 50 HR a year.and a lot of guys get injuried in the sport if you on aas or of it.
our sport is the best to look at.we lift heavy and very,we put out bodys true hell every single training, and we brake sooner or later.thats just how it is.your body can take that much.
and to say that if you were on aas those 8 year or so,and you spoted it,i dont think that that put everybody in the bed or that much down that everybody(most)biggest guys in that sport will stop hitting that ball out of park.it seems like if you stop aas you cant hit the ball,or you starting missing it.so what it is.
i am just tired of hearing that aas is the THING what stoping from hitting HR.
i dont know maybe i am verry wrong.

So true. This nation has much bigger fish to fry than a minor issue the government is making a huge deal of, in order to take the spotlight away from other more serious matters.

It's not like gear is negatively affecting mass amounts of american citizens by violence, death or otherwise. All of the people who are geared up are competing against people that are doing the same. It's a level playing field. I watched the Bob Chich interview with Tom Prince recently and it addressed the same exact thing.

What I meant

the comment about Barry planning to lose 25 lbs was just one I found interesting.

The question about home run totals over past years versus this year - I don't know the answer. I don't believe that taking steroids enables one to hit home
runs. I do believe that taking steroids (and hgh) enables one to hit more home runs. Certainly over their lifetime (more productive years of baseball) and likely within a season.

With respect to what seems to be the prevailing attitude toward steroids and baseball on this board (something like steroids don't help you hit more homeruns and if they did its nobody's business anyway) I disagree.

In fact, I'm surprised at the level of sympathy that steroid using bodybuilders have for steroid using baseball players. Its the fact that these guys used steroids - which is widely regarded as cheating - and then lied about it that brought all the attention. The fact that Maguire, (sp) Bonds etc used steroids to "cheat" casts a bad light on steroid use by the rest of people who are either not cheating because they do not compete (recreational bodybuilders) or not cheating because they are using steroids in professional
competitions where there use is accepted.

I am not much of a baseball fan. However, folks that I know who are hold things like home run records sacred. To those of us who are familiar with anabolics - we've know since before Mcgwire (sp) tried to fake the funk with the andro bs that the players were juiced. Meanwhile, the rest of the boneheads were out there analyzing the baseballs that were being used, discussing the quality of pitching being watered down, the parks being smaller, etc. etc.

So, I think we should have a little patience with the general public. They are really just coming to terms with the idea that their heros have been cheating.

In addition - while I indicated earlier that I don't know the degree that homerun hitting has dropped off, I firmly believe a panel-based statistical analysis of home run hitting will indicate that tougher testing is associated
with less home runs. Those who would argue that there is not a relationship seem to me to be similar to the doctors who said steroids don't make you bigger or stronger. - CH

Its really not the general public that is the problem. Its the sensationalizing media and the devious politicians, who are trying to divert attention away from the real problems in this country, wchich they have been completely inept in solving.

I was talking to a guy in the gym today...
I was like, Ive been in lots of gyms in the last 25yrs.
Ive never heard a person who lifts that ACCIDENTALLY took a steroid.
But each and EVERY (except one) baseball player who get caught claims this accident! I wish every one of them would stand up and say what Bonds did!
Things might change, as the public actually starts to think about this statement-its so damn obvious its pathetic. Even the typically gullible public could probably figure this viewpoint out if they heard it enough.
