Both shoulders getting surgery

What did you have surgery for? I know people who had shoulder surgery and kinda regret it. I feel like no one’s back to normal ever, unless getting a replacement. But then after a replacement, you’re not supposed to put too much weight on it, so that’s something you do when you’re older and hanging up the gloves in life so to speak, no?
First surgery left shoulder was to reattach 2 rotators that were torn off the bone and fix a ruptured biceps. Next surgery right was to replace the right shoulder torn labrum was likely the start of the issue. Left is worn out now so it will have another surgery in the next couple years most likley. But it really doesn't cause any issues at the moment. I find getting the right Dr and the right diagnosis is paramount for bein happy with surgeries. I have had spine surgery and vetted that Dr well am happy as i can be about that outcome as well. I do find expectations can be the cause of disappointment. Having realistic expectations are needed.

Good luck with shoulders OP. Generically speaking, they do arthroscopies for rotator cuff and labral tears, replacements for bad arthritis and reverse totals for both RTC tears and arthritis. They won't do both at the same time. You wouldn't be able to survive and that would be inhumane. You would have to convince a friend to come over and feed you, wipe your ass and if lucky hand job every now and again during your recovery... I know Dave Palumbo has had some shoulder totals with maybe one being a reverse and he looks pretty ripped just doing cardio at his age.

My perspective with joint longevity is that if you cannot do a thorough rotator cuff workout/exercises on regular basis then you shouldn't be doing much else as strong flexible RTC muscles protect your shoulder. And if you are void of both flexibility and strength of the RTC muscles and doing still doing heavy movement this allows for more invasive force upon the joint as well at RTC/labrum. Rotator cuff muscle are like the core of the shoulder like our torso is the core for our spine.

Of course keep us posted and again good luck!

So I went and fucked both of my shoulders up pretty good. Wore them out. My left shoulder has had all rotators reattached and my bicep tendon cleaned up. That was about 8 years ago. It healed up and I got back 100% in about a year. Something popped in it a few wks ago changing my tires.and I’d felt that before. It’s pretty much useless now. The other shoulder was injured severely several times over the years and is now frozen up. It will randomly just come out of its socket and my arm kind of feels like it’s trying to fall off. I just got to a point when I could no longer fake training in the gym. Iv got mris next week on both shoulders and I’ll find out soon after what the plan is with orthopedist. It’s going to suck. But Iv needed it done for a long time. Hopefully I don’t need shoulder replacements. I fucked one of them up bad and trained on it for years. I know I did lots of damage not addressing it. We will see.
🙏

wishing you a speedy recovery!

bpc157, tb500 healing peptides are a must, but HGH trumps both them my opinion…

that sucks man, like others mentioned I do not think the Ortho would do both at the same time, but even if he would I would not do it, you could be the toughest bastard on the planet but it would still render you useless, I'm dealing with shoulder shit as well and it does suck ass, good luck to ya man.

As someone with a traaash shoulder, I literally and figuratively feel your pain Alza. Very interested to see what that MRIs say.

I have had things repaired/reattached in my shoulder as well as replaced. And still used the repaired arm to wipe my ass and feed myself, drink coffee, cooked my food from day 1. And was back to work and the gym in a week?
How long were you not able to do those things after your surgery?

Good luck with the surgery. Hopefully you surgeon does a great job.

Buck, I'm fortunate to have minimal to no shoulder issues. My proximal biceps tendons flare from time to time and restrict some exercises but my shoulder are pretty good. I am in early 40s.

I am looking at things from the other side though. I work with physicians doing the surgeries and talk with patient in an office setting. Every patient's circumstances are different and each doctor has a different protocol in which they believe. So there is no absolute. I'm a glad to hear you recovered very quickly from your bout.

Although best case scenario you recover quickly, there is still risk for things to go bad as well. So if things happen to go bad you definitely want one arm available at least.

I never mentioned having both arms done at the same time. I find Dr's are usually very very conservative in their recommendations. On most of those recommendations are geared towards a patients comfort and not to healing optimally. For my shoulders the Dr. set a 10 pound weight restriction for my first surgery, which still allowed many activities. When i had my replacement they wanted me stretching my arm over head as far as was comfortable hours after the surgery and 4 times a day from day 1, which for me was pretty much straight overhead. And these were different Dr.s. So movement was part of the recovery. Same with my spine surgery. If i listened and followed all Dr recommendations i would be on far more drugs then i am with likely no benefit and quite possibly more side effects. I find the patient is the best source for making decisions and not Dr. But we all have our own comfort zones.

@Alzadosghost sorry to hear man! Shoulder issues have to be rough!! I hope whatever it is you need to get them straightened out gets done and you have a solid recovery! Let us know how the MRI's turned out.

Speedy Recovery brother

Best of luck brother. Looks like a lot of leg days in your future. When I tore my pec and had surgery I did legs every other day, and cardio on off days. Kept me sane

I probably won’t even step foot in a gym at all for the next year. I’ll be focusing on rehab. And just trying to get back to work. The gym is the least of my concerns at the moment. One of my shoulders might not even be fixable and need replaced entirely. Either way I’ll be ok w it.they can only tell so much from an mri and always find more stuff when they cut you open.

And if I was told I couldn’t train to the degree I used to with weights, I’m ok with that. My identity is loosely connected to the gym. In life Iv been alot of things I’m much prouder of than accomplishments in the gym. Don’t get me wrong Iv enjoyed my time training but I have a lot I want to do with life yet.

Fuck bro that sounds brutal. Just reading your past posts about your job and still being a beast in the gym...imo your one of the toughest mfers here...no doubt after you heal you'll get everything back if you choose to...good luck

Got my MRI Results for both shoulders. Prognosis is about as bad as it can get honestly. Iv got zero labrum left in either shoulder. Like not a trace of it. All cartlidge is gone. Type 3 acromium half gone and razor sharp both sides. Arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis and chondramalacia. Lots of bone damage. Only one rotator is intact the other are 7 full thickness tears with major retraction and atrophy. Only one can possibly be reattached but would more than likely not last. Lots of bone spurrs. Biceps tendons are shredded and both need cut and reattached. He said my shoulders are the worst he’s ever seen. Literally everything that could go wrong in there has. Both shoulders are always out of socket. I trained that way for many years making it really bad. He said the only thing I can really do is two reverse replacements but he advised against it at my age. It worked be done of I was in too much pain. Abd iv got pain. I can’t lay down and sleep at all. But he said that I could do more now physically being fucked up than I could if they were replaced. I couldn’t do my job without my arms. I asked if weight training was ever going to be possible and he said no. Not like youv been doing. No more weights. Ok that was alot to handle hearing but I kind of figured I destroyed myself pretty good cause that’s what I do. And yes this is all a direct effect of lifting weights. Just wore everything out. I guess it playing football for 35 years and logging and weight training don’t go together. He told me that steroids have a lot to do with my injuries as they are all common with aas users as the connective tissue is weakened. Genetics can play a part but he’s seen this story many times and the steroid guys just wear shit out quicker as they train harder and more frequently than most natural guys do. Which I agree with. At least that’s been my experience. Oh well. Lifting weights and muscles are not my identity. And I’m ok letting it go. I had a good run and lots of memories. And as I won’t be living this lifestyle any longer I will have no reason to be on professional muscle.
