Does any chew or have kicked this bad habit? If so how did you kick it to the curb?

I kicked it bro...
My gums were getting all jacked up so i just flat out HAD to stop..its been hard but been off for over 4 months now..

RONJON

Still do bro. 1/2 can a day. It's tough. Not good for you, but I'm hoping to kick it soon.

paddington

very tough... i tried nicorette gum. it worked for a few weeks.... then i relapsed. i have been chewing for 17 years now. my gums are still good and no cancer yet. my teeth shifted over the years and i had to get braces and crowns! shit is not good, but someone has to do it....:D

Yea, I tried chewing tobacco once, and I nearly puked.

I dip skoal tobacco a good amount..its been 3 years, but I am not addicted, I just do it when I am hanging out with my buddies usually every other day. Sometimes when I am out of town for a week or 2 I totally forget about doing it.

I do occasionally, and by occasionally, I mean maybe 1 day every 2 weeks or so. It's a great stimulant, especially when combined with caffeine.
I chew the Pan Parag Pan Masala. It's a potent Indian stimulant that has Betel Nuts and tobacco, as well as lime to enhance the effects. Costs me 25 cents a pack. The first few times will make you dizzy, but after that, you just get a REAL GOOD head buzz and just feel fantastic for about 30 minutes.
It's like becoming much more aware of everything around you, sounds sound more intense, you perspire more, you feel "pumped up" similar to a small bump of some....well...nevermind :D

I quit chewing and started with the Camel Snus packets. No spitting and less nicotine. Best thing is to just quit as they call it "cold turkey".

Yea thats the only thing I miss...the relaxation and awareness I got from the stuff...o well gotta weigh the pros and cons.

You have to apply the same discipline you use for dieting and working out, I dipped for years then went cold turkey and haven't touched the crap for years.

Have chewed about a 1/2 -1 can a day of cope snuff since i was about 15, now 30. I mostly only chew at work, on my days off or when not at work i don't really have the desire. I have been off work for about 3 weeks now for back/neck probs, and i have only had maybe 4-5 dips in that amount of time. Gonna have one right now that i'm thinkin bout it lol

I dip from time to time, mainly to reduce alcohol consumption or at football games where you cant drink (college). I like the pouches these days mainly to keep from getting crap on my face and I feel like it is probably easier on my lips.

I don't understand how anyone could get hooked on it, then again I don't see how you could get hooked on illegal drugs either...I guess its just something you experience or dont experience.

I quit dipping/chewing cold turkey in late july (after 3 years). i've had a pinch or two since but i will never go back to it. I also quit drinking a month later. Breaking two vices can make a big difference in your life.

its alittle different but i quit smoking the first time i woke up in the morning coughing. it scared the crap out of me. just stop, and save yourself a couple of hundred thousand in future medical expenses.

UNREAL!

I quit cold turkey, several times!! :) Sometimes I just feel like starting again so I do. Then I stop for a while. I noticed my gums are getting trashed and I need to stay away from it, at some point I think I am going to lose a front tooth, or I have to get them gum transplants which I really don't want!!

it will be one of the hardest things you do. Smoking, dipping whatever. I've been through both.

cold turkey imo is setting urself up for failure unless u have some amazing will power and really want to quit.

you need to try the patch, the gum, chew regular gum, drink water anything to keep ur mind and mouth off it.

set goals and reward urself that is important, don't punish urself.

if u slip up and you will don't let it stop u.

IMHO the hardest thing to realize is that the cravings will pass, trust me it will be hard at first but will only get easier.

I did a lot of cardio and sleeping when I was quitting

The best way to stop any habit is to totally remove yourself from your "routine". Think about it. Anytime you feel like chewing or smoking it's at the same times every day. Take yourself out of your routine for a week or so, and it will be much easier. A lot of your routine centers around your work schedule. It is much more condusive to quitting if you take a vacation and give it a try. Hypnosis would be a good thing to hit up right before the vacation...for those that believe in that sort of thing.

redman

I chewed redman for 10+ years. I quit because I couldn't stand the color
of my teeth. I know how much my parents spent on braces and what I was doing to destroy my teeth. I got some trays from my dentist, and started whitening. end of story. I get so many compliments from people on my teeth
now. that is enough for me never to chew again.
I did start snacking on sunflower seeds to help with the void that was left
when I stopped chewing. It was something I did only while driving. (chewing)
