So, in my pursuit of addressing my sciatica problem, on the recommendation of a friend, I went to a chiropractor. All he did was do some traction on my lower back and then suggested I get a massage and get some X-rays. Overall, I wasn't overly impressed. What good is the chiropractor going to do for my sciatica?

I went to some chiropractors and were not impressed. I did go to one, which I use all the time, that is great. Just like any business, some or good and some are not. I would go to a chiropractor instead of a MD. I want to eliminate the problem, not mask it with drugs. Mainevent is a chiropractor and could probally tell you alot more then me.

my sci has always killed me until I tryed an inversion table. Hang upside down for 10-20minutes and let the pressure come off your lower back...it will blow your fuckin mind! it doesnt last for ever though, I have to do mine 3-5 a week if i wanna stay on top of it. for me its the pressure build up in y lower back that triggers my sciatica. google inversion table and go from there. Useally the ones that support more weight are the better quality ones. good luck

In my opinion you are wasting your time with a chiropractor. I did that for a few months, then wasted few months in physical therapy.

Have your regular doctor setup an appointment with a pain management doctor. I had the epidural spinal injections three times in one year and it fixed my problem. It's been 3 years ago and still pain free.

It's pretty scary them sticking you in your spine like a spinal tap but it works great. I had instant relief after being injected. As soon as I was injected I felt a burning pain in my leg where the pain was, then instant relief and pain free!

I had sciatica in my right glute where it meets my spine that finally radiated down the back of my leg to my middle two toes. An MRI showed degenerative disk disease, basically a type of arthritis from years of lifting. My L5-S1 joint was causing my problem. Don't be in pain if you don't need to, pain meds will not help nerve pain.

My "sciatica" ended up being a degenerative hip. Crap. BTW sitting on a tennis ball at the exact point of pain helped me a lot. Luckily I've degenerated past the Sciatica problem on the left side, but the right is starting.

BTw the chiro did the initial diagnosis I then followed up with the MD for the MRI.

Did he not adjust you at all?

Some adjustment

He put me in some machine for like 5 minutes to do an adjustment. It basically did some stretching of my lower back. To me it didn't seem like much for the amount of money. I thought he would recommend some stretching or exercises, but he just said, get some x-rays and we'll see what they look like. My MD said the x-rays are worthless for sciatica. If things don't improve he is talking about an MRI.

Thanks for all the input. At least I can different things and see what works for me. I've been told to put heat no it to relax the muscle. I'm trying that every night. It seems to help a little.

Chiro

The one thing that works extremely well is when a Chiropractor puts you under then twists the ever living hell out of you. I have friends that swear by it.

Manipulation under anesthesia? Its only legal in certain states.

x2.. I have tried many chiro's with no luck..then i met a chiro that worked with athletes a lot. He has helped me tremendously. I swear by him.
