I have been diagnosed with ddd in the L5S1 and it has been giving me a lot of pain. Seems like it’s became much worse after taking a job as a truck driver sitting for long periods of time. Chiropractor used to give some relief but now it doesn’t seem to have much effect. I’m sure a lot of guys here have the same issue. What tips do you have for pain relief? And work arounds? Hip hinge movements are the worst so I cut them out, squats feel ok while I’m doing them but there is hell to pay for the next few days or even weeks after. Looking for both supplemental (non prescription) pain relief and movement suggestions.
Thank you

My experience is that keeping muscles strong negates pain more in the long run then is generated by working out. I have a couple disc that have degenerated as well as a few more that are herniated or bulged. I am guessing that you already have a lumbar support in the seat in the rig you are driving.

How old are you

Iv got degenerative ddd in math discs as well as herniated discs and was diagnosed at 23 im 52 now and rarely have any problems with it. Occasionally I’ll have a short bout of Siatica that usually lasts a few days. For me keeping my lumbar back muscles strong and being upright as much as possible. Sitting down is the only thing that bothers me so I rarely sit. Driving long distances is the worst so I avoid traveling this way if possible.

Yes I have a lumbar support I place in the seat and have experimented with a back brace that has built in lumbar support as well.

Sitting is the worst, I try to get up and move as much as possible, but 6 hours of my day is driving usually.

Chiro, decompression table, therapy. Lubar brace, epideral steroid injection, & kratom. Helped me a lot

This ⬆️⬆️⬆️, and also core work! Made a huge difference for me!

Reverse hyperextension machine. Haven’t had a flare up with sciatica resulting from two bulging discs since incorporating it into my routine.
This while being painful at first did seem to offer some relief tonight and made other movements easier. Thank you for the suggestion

have sitting issues. Plane to LA this year 11hrs most of it I had to stand As I am forever fidgeting around and cannot get comfortable.
planks and back extensions.
you can even do back extension holds for time and try to build the time up slowly to build endurance.
make sure you do a lot of upper back work too to keep posture. During a stop break in your truck maybe do band and do pull a parts then some sideways walking standing on a band crossed like an X to loosen the hips.
make sure your working your glutes too

A miracle compared to anything else on the planet earth.

This machine was a life saver for me. Unfortunately not many gyms have it and I no longer have access to one.

I have it in L4 and L5. I have found red vein Kratom to help a lot. I’ve been using it since 2016. Take it when you won’t be driving to see you you react. I drive a fire truck for a living so I know how your positioning can hurt. Granted I’m not in the truck for long periods like you but I understand. Also, try to stay moving as much as you can. If I don’t train for 3 days or so I have lots of pain too. Also dont by Kratom from smoke shop, that stuff is trash!!!
