Just a basic question on how these products work. Do these require a caloric deficit to burn fat - by speeding up the metabolism? Or do they have another pathway to mobilize fatty acids; meaning they would be effective in a "bulk"?
 
I have always felt ECA just gave me the engery to do the cardio being calorie deficiant. ECA does slighty raise your resting heart rate so it will make you burn more calories through out the day

So, you're saying that it will only help if you are in a caloric deficit or if it puts you into one?

Say you're own maintenance, to keep it simple, is 3,000kcal. Your diet puts you at 2,500kcal. The ECA might might burn an extra 250kcal throughout the day so now your down to 2,250kcal.

Or, if you're diet is right at 3000kcal and the ECA puts you down to 2750kcal. Either way you will be in a deficit and losing weight (hopefully fat).

The main point I'm asking about is if you're (hypothetically) 1,000kcal over maintenance, would and ECA help to burn fat even though you're still in a surplus?

An ECA stack will help your body burn what ever your body is burning. So if you are in a calorie deficit you are burning some fat. And the ECA stack will help that along. If you're in a calorie surplus I'm not sure how you can expect to be burning fat unless it's dietary fat. In a calorie surplus you've got excess fuel floating around. Why would your body be pulling more fuel out of storage????:cool:

Good point, there seem to be people who say you can burn fat while gaining LBM and others who say you can't. By your comment, I assume you say you can't do both. I don't know - that's why I posted this in the first place.

You can do both, though not very efficiently. But you have to keep a very fine balance of both calories and nutrient partitioning closely matched to your body physiology. You can't just be in a calories surplus and think it will work.
