haha, you know, you just have to laugh at some of these morons. You know the type I'm talking about. The ones who used to spend 4 hrs a day in the gym, bench 500 lbs, were twice as big as you, and did it all natural!!! It's usually the half drunk construction worker in the gas station with the case of natty ice in his hand, or some 400 lb dude you work with (they always had to retire from their gig as local bad ass due to injury) Most of them couldn't tell you jack shit about working out, or dieting, or rest and recovery. All of them just drank protien shakes, took their vitamins, and said their prayers. And something else they all have in common, they all want to see you fail!! The ones you know or work with thrive off seeing people give up or turn into a regular person. I had a guy yesterday who used to be a gym bad ass (according to him) "So when's your next competition?" I told him I was taking some time off to pack on more size and take care of some other shit in life. "Oh, well now your probably gonna eat whatever and blow up like the rest of us" I just shook my head and laughed at him. Yeah sure, I've only been doing this for 12 yrs now, I'm just going to quit cold turkey and start eating doughnuts. You can spot these fuckers a mile away too, they think we're so dumb or something.

my experience?

The best guys at the gym dont have time for conversations.

or they know someone who _____________! And it's always better than you.

When I first started I met lots of people who knew someone or used to bench 300. Then when i was benching 315 everyone I met used to bench 350. Then when I benched 400 I met people who used to bench about 450. Now, they all bench 600! amazing.

I had one guy ask me what I benched and I said around 475 or so. He was like yeah, I know this guy that benched 550. He benches so much he has to wear a special shirt....

The best guys at the gym wouldnt let a Flex magazine photographer interupt them training.

The best guys at the gym talk to the weight.

The best guys at the gym brought a training partner and average one or two words per 45 minutes to them.

Back in the day!!..............................everyone was back in the day.
Well back in the day I used to trip over my dick, but I'm older now and it shrank!!!;) :D

reminds me of a workout in the college gym. me and a friend were training chest. my warmup is always 135 for 2 sets of 12, 225 for 8, 315 for 6, and then do sets with 365 and 385 for 3-12 reps, pyramiding. well i had just done my 225 for 8 warmup. another person with his friend asked if they could jump in, of course i said yes. he proceded to do the most insane looking difficult set of 225, for NINE. he was intense trying to get that last one. he then got up and looked at me like 'whats up now'. i was perplexed, he actually was competing with my warmup???????? he didnt know that was just my warmup? even if it wasnt, is it necessary to try to compete with someone you dont know? well i proceded directly to 365, which i did for 12. the look on his face was sick. my friend embelleshed saying 'reiko you going light today?'

later that guy came up to me and told me how last month he was doing 400 for reps. but he hasnt trained in a month. i asked, exactly 400? he said yes, further proving he was a lying sack of shit. you dont go from 400 to 225 for 9 in a month from lack of training. also no one does 400, they do 405.

i was standing with chris cormier when a guy started talking to him and said i have a cousin about your size only hes a little bigger

me and my training partner have perfected a mental force-field that drives away these talkers. wish i could bottle it for you.

Ill admit I kinda didnt even want to ask Cutler for the autograph. I think you should have a little self preservation when speaking to a 320 pound guy. :)

I think some old guys like to come to the gym for the social aspect more than anything and I dont knock them for it one bit. Lets not forget this whole bodybuilding thing is only being done seriously by two, maybe even three guys per average club. Lots of old timers are just their to meet with people like many others.

That one makes me laugh everytime I hear of someone being told that...

I was one of those guys who did some lifting in my late teens. and then stopped and let myself turn in to your average couch potato . I wish i had never stopped now. the time i have lost. it has to be a life style i have been back at it for over 7 years and i will never go back. you just have to remember the bigger you get. you cant let your head do the same i have met some big guys who are just arrogant f--ks not worth the time of day. its good to remember were you started and try to help the ones that are trying to get their.but you always have some that just let it slip away and it makes them feel better buy saying they were better back when.you have to be the better man and let it slide.

Good Post.

I have younger guys doing the same thing or trying to one up me (with absolute shit form and minimal range of motion) as soon as I've finished..........I don't go extremely heavy but I go go extremely strict and slow both on the negative and positive movement.

When it gets to me enough I might ask them about there poor form and why their range of motion is only 2 inches, but normally I'm man enough to let the BS slide.

Sometimes I think I have "I can kick your ass!" written on my forehead after hearing comments from random d-bags in public that always seem to know a guy twice my size that can kick my ass. This is usually followed by some embellished anecdote about how they used to bench press a house and got more pussy than Hefner...back in the day. lol

yeah the twice my size one is popular.

random fool: 'yo man my cousint is twice your size'

me: 'cool. so he is 11 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 480 lbs?'

** note the 't' in cousint was NOT a mistype

My girlfriend's father always has the classic one up story. Now, he's one the nicest guys I have ever met and does have great genetics.

But a couple of years ago he asked me what I squat. My personal best at the time was about 365 for 6. He was surprised it was so low and told me about the time when, after never going over 2 plates he decided he would like to squat 500lbs. So he loaded up the bar and did 9 reps. He only stopped because his coach came running over to tell him to stop because he hadn't done any warmup sets.
