favorite steak

QUESTION- Is more protein spared if a steak is cook to rare, medium rare, compared to medium well, well done.

I know boiling eggs conservs more protein compared to frying atleast what i was taught in nutrition class.

do you weigh your meat raw or cooked?
 
My absolute favorite is bison steak medallions.

I also regularly eat top round, london broil, rump steak, and occasionally a sirloin, prime rib, ribeye.

Sommer Organic also makes a very lean cut NY Strip.

Flat Iron Steak is becoming my favorite. Almost as tender as a filet, almost as tasty as a NY Strip, about as lean as 90% ground beef, and relatively cheap if you shop around.

On a side note...I don't really know where to get grass fed beef and have not the time or patience to pursue it. So is it bad to eat steak from the grocery store? I know they pump them up with estrogen and other hormones but how much is that going to hurt me vs. the benefits of beef protein? Am I shooting myself in the foot here?

I LOVE bison... but just remember that there are fatty cuts of bison as well.

I also love ground Emu for burgers

I know they pump them up with estrogen and other hormones but how much is that going to hurt me vs. the benefits of beef protein? Am I shooting myself in the foot here?

They carry it at Whole Foods, that's where I get mine since most of the farms by me are a couple hour drive or have a huge minimum that I just don't have the space for. Grass fed is the only beef I'll eat now...it's lean has abgreat fatty acid profile and is high in CLA. Also it hormone and antibiotic free...the farmers also really take care of their animals and treat them with respect which I like...I feel a happy animal makes a much better product all around. Yes it is more expensive than conventional beef but well worth it.
 
On a daily basis I eat 2 meals with 96/4 Ground beef. But for cheat meals I really enjoy Ribeye, sirloin, and Fillet Mignon.
 
I love Porterhouse, Tenderloin, Prime rib, New York, and even a Top Sirloin or London when done right!! I love steak!!:D

Yep. I found the bison steak medallions at whole foods. A 6oz cut has 37g protein, 2.5g fat.

Sounds wierd, but a nice flank steak used for fajita's, medium rare and toppe with a nice chimichura sauce and small amount of jack cheese

Hey all....what is your favorite steak? I have been getting shoulder steaks from a local meat store. They are lean, and cheap. I usually marinade them for a bit, with the lowest sodium marinade I can find, then grill em up. Any other favorites?

I'm a filet mignon guy myself...not cheap,,,but so good!

There was a thread on this a while back...i weigh my protein raw...cooking to certain temp (rare-med rare) should have minimal impact on protein values. Fat and moisture are the main things that are lost in cooking meats.

Nutritional values for most of the things we cook are given precooked. Enjoy
 
tired of the same old steak seasoning?

2 sprigs fresh Rosemary, chopped fine and placed in a mixing bowl.
1/2 cup Extra virgin Olive Oil, pour into mixing bowl
1 clove diced garlic, set to the side, in the bowl it goes
1/2 tspn white pepper, yepp,, mix it in the bowl
Mix all of together..... generously top your steak before plating. Mmmmmm
