Fertility Question

Hey guys/girls,

My best friend had been taking steroids for the last 4 years or so and his wife wanted a child so last September he stopped completely, did a good PCT for about 6 week and since then has only been taking ZMA before bed and tribulus. Back in December he went for a sperm count and these were his results.....

Sperm Count 8 million, normal should be over 20.


Normal Spermatozoa 27% normal should be over 30%

Abnormal Heads 50%
Abnormal Tailpieces 23%

So when his doctor got those results he sent him for another test which he did about 5 weeks after and here were his results....

Sperm Count 15 million, normal should be over 20.


Normal Spermatozoa 23% normal should be over 30%

Abnormal Heads 61%
Abnormal Tailpieces 16%

So basically after going for both test, his doctor called him in for a checkout.... and concluded that the problem was that he has a Varicocele vein in his ball sack.....

Now, we both have the same family doctor, we know he's an idiot and basically knows nothing about anything but family doctors are impossible to find here so we are stuck with him..... Now my question to you guys/girls is after being off for 5 months, it's obviously normal that his test are that low.....could it really be the vein causing the problem or the fact that he's been on cycle for so long and might just need to go on clomid or a similar drug to help him go up in results..... Obviously he doesn't want to be operated on if he can help it some other way..... Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Unless he's had an ultrasound done on his testicles there's no way for the doctor to conclusively prove that its an issue with a vericose vein....even then that's kind of sketchy since my understanding is that the issue with the veins relates to blood pooling and increasing the temperature of the balls.

It took me about 9 months to have my count come back up when I came off and that was with clomid the whole time and some periods of femara treatment as well.

Im am interested in this topic very much and hope to hear some educated opinions on this. My wife has fears of when we start to have kids when she finishes school. Is the abnormal sperm meaning you have a higher chance of a handicap child?

I have been hitting aas for 10 years with 8 week cycles at less than a gram total of anything and I am happy to say I have a little boy coming in a month. My girl was pregnant before a few months ago but she miscarriaged. I wouldnt stress. Goodluck

No, it just means the sperm cannot swim as well or will have a reduced ability to penetrate the egg.

i was on 2 strait years at pretty high doses. my friends docter told him no way he will get his girlfriend pregnant while on steroids, thats bullshit. i was with my girlfriend for 3 weeks and got her pregnant while on heavy doses. keep trying you will be fine

I got a close friend actually used to be my roommate and he got his girl pregnant while on cycle so it's possible. Keep trying.

Well my friend isn't on cycle right now and he says he never will, he's just worried that he's not doing everything that he can to help to process a long and then he has this doctor telling him he's pretty sure it's the vein causing the problem so of course his wife thinks the same.....Just trying to help him as best as I can.

He is still partially shut down. Unfortunately, this is something that can happen. I was in same boat. My doc prescribed androgel, gonal F, and Profasi from what I can recall. He had a keychain of nuts that he held up to mine and showed the size difference. Asked me what I did to cause this and I looked like a deer in the headlights. Went for an mri of the pituitary and such to be sure it was not a tumor. I F'd up bad. I would immediately go on HCG or have him speak to an endocrinologist and tell him it was from prohormone usage or be honest. It is all fixable. I had a sperm count through the roof and post usage I just about had none. The doc saw through my denial of supplementation and fixed me up. I know my wife had to take some stuff too for fertility. I may have messed up on the above meds but I think they were the ones I had to take.

Dear Get it in ya and Jfunk316 ,ome guys can get women pregnant while on heavy doses, some guys can't. Not everybody is the same.


Pumpd- I'd have your doctor check your LH, FSH, and other sperm influencing hormone levels. Once he see's those are low they should give you HCG, clomid and/or other fertility drugs.

Personally I would NOT tell any Dr. about your illegal steroid usage. Either say you've had the problem for a while and dont know why, OR, that you used prohormones back when they were legal.

if you tell them you used anabolics, it will go in your chart.
You dont want that.
