food or weight gainer?

is it better for off season gaining for example to have a weight gainer shake e.g. 25g protein, 70g carbs or to eat the whole food equivalent?

i usually have a weight gainer shake with each meal, just wondering if it would be better to have more food instead of the shake?

This topic has be argued many times and different people will give you different answers. However, for many including myself, I have found that whole food is better for bulking compared to a weight gainer shake because most weight gainer shakes have a shit ton of dextrose or maltodextrin whic are simple carbs which is great for putting on fat if you consume too much of it because it spikes insulin levels.
 
Whole foods whenever you can. Like JM said, most of the weight gainer powders are full of CRAP! Quality weight/muscle is not the same as just putting on weight.

Anytime you can use a whole food over any kind of MR type supplement...do it. MR and shakes are good for convenience and those that are pressed for time, but nothing can or ever will replace food.
 
just make your own gainer shake. plenty of recipes out there
