I just switched to full body every other day and was wondering what you guys thought of splitting the full body workout from all at once to half at lunchtime (11am) and the rest at 4:30pm.... This will aloow me time to get in the whole body. My gym has 2 locations that work for me (one near the job, the other near the house) and was hoping to capitalize on that. The one near my home is always crowded for anything chest or shoulder related, but always has back stuff available and the one near the job is great at 11am all around.

Also, can i just do every other day for a while? for example mo,we,fr,su,tu,th,sa?

I would like to do cardio 3 times when this is no weight training

thanks in advance, this board is great!!

why??

im curious as to why you want to do it all in one day... you are not giving your body proper rest between workouts, and that might result in overtraining, and then you will get burnt out..

full body

I have been reading more and more about doing the whole body every other day as the most effective. The body only grows muscle for 48 hours after a workout.. I got the info from this month's mens fitness.

I have even read some posts here about whole body 3 times a week

Hi Mate,

I doubt very much if your body would grow with 6 or more workouts a week.

Don't get me wrong if you enjoy training then see how it works for you.

But if you really want to train each bodypart 3 times a week stick to a whole body routine in one session.

Training that much may cause you to burn out very quickly. I doubt if most of the Pro's even train that much a week. And you'll be spending most of your free time in the gym without seeing the maximum possible result.

Let me know what your training history is and what your goals are.

Regards

J

I agree, if you are doing a who;e body workout 3x per week is enuff M-W-F it only takes 48hrs to recover from the prevoius workout but more in this case is not better.. 3x per week should give you the best results possible...

This is a terrible way to train, you need to do atleast 12 hard sets per muscle group to get in a good work out. if you do the math thats an insane ammount of total sets on any given day, and honestly anerobically you couldn't handle it. Also its not enough resting between working out the same muscle groups to fully recover. Focus on training 2-3 muscle groups per work out. hitting each muscle group once a week works great, but I think twice a week is a little better.

I would suggest you do and upper/lower split if you have trouble getting in a fullbody workout. You can either do an M-T-T-F or an everyother day.
If you want an example routine check out UHT 2.0 in the article section.
I feel these types of routines are best for hypertrophy as they have been proven over the years.
Do a routine you know that you will be consistant with. That is most important.

so far I have been doing upper body in the am and my leg work in the afternoon on a M-W-F split..I feel that I am making good gains, I figure I will switch to a more traditional routine when I hit a wall.

The more I read it seems that any muscle on grows for 48 hours, and a bunch of exercise is not required to make a muscle grow. I spend about 90 minutes on upper in the late am then about an hour in the afternoon on my legs and some arm work

This is my routine:

Late AM:

6 Sets Bench Press (2 Warm up) Smith Machine
3 Sets Shoulder Press
3 Sets Upright Rows
3 Sets Bench Press Free Weights
3 Sets Incline Bench Press
3 Sets Dumbell Flyes
6 Sets Lat Pulldown (Underhand Grip)
3 Sets Lat Pulldown (Close Grip)
3 Sets Lat Pulldown (Wide Grip)
3 Sets Cable Row

Just remember its not about how long you work out, its about the quality of the training session. Keep a mind set in the gym to destroy the muscle groups your working. I think trying to do more then 3 muscle groups in one work out your going to miss the mark on every group you train because you cannot dedicate a true amount of time to one group to give it the attention it needs to grow.
