Everyone,

I am back in the gym after a 15 year layoff, and my training partner and I are working the Serious Growth Program from OTS

What if any opinion do you have on this..?

Dave

what does your routine look like?
btw, phil should be able to give you some insight into this program.

OTS Program...

Hi,

I am dmcdonnell's training partner and we are working the OTS Big Beyond Belief Six Day Per Week routine.

On Monday - Wednesday - Friday we work Chest, Back, Biceps, and Calf

On Tuesday - Thursday - Saturday we work Delts, Triceps, Thighs, and Abs

Currently we only do three sets per body part and do varying rep schemes. On Monday and Tuesday we do 10-12 reps with 180 seconds rest between sets, Wednesday and Thursday we do 8-10 reps with 180 seconds rest, and Friday and Saturday we do 5-7 reps with 180 seconds rest between sets.

So far it's working for us. I have lost a full two inches of my waist, gained a full inch in my arms and chest, and have increased my bench press by 45 lbs. All in only six weeks. Best of all, I only take GNC Creatine and 100% Whey Protein for supplements.

Dave's results are pretty much the same. He has added roughly 50 lbs to his bench, it looks like an inch to his arms and chest, and overall looks like he has lost 20 lbs even though the scale says he weighs the same. So he must be loosing fat and gaining allot of muscle.

Sincerely,
Brandon

OTS

I've been involved with OTS from the beginning.... Back in 89' when Leo and Co. came out with Bulgarian Burst (The first training program)
I was used in their marketing as one of their "Testimonial" guys, they've used my testimonials in their materials. It was revolutionary and as a young guy it was exciting... Plus my partner and I were the only kids that "knew" about it... I will say that it helped me go from a 118lb bench warmer to a 190lb All State Lineman on our football team and helped me get a College Scholarship. It was nice because my genetics are questionable at best. I went from nowhere to somewhere pretty quick... It helped me pack on size, plus I was faster as a lineman than our linebackers or safeties. One thing I can say was it was great to be a natural athlete and have everyone accusing me of being on something.

I've used "All" of their programs from Bulgarian Burst Serious Growth I, Serious Growth II, Serious Growth III Big Beyond Belief, and Titan Training System (latest).

I'll have to admit I enjoyed Serious Growth II and Serious Growth III the best... I've been on them though for SO long since 90' that I DESPERATELY needed a change.......as with anything you can get FRIED! I got cooked physically, and mentally...

Candidly, I'm now off OTS completely and paying Phil to train me for my first Natural BB show this fall.

Give OTS a serious try...glad to hear it's helping!

OTS

Hi brachialis,

Thanks for the feedback. I am glad to hear that OTS and their training systems have helped you so much. All American, I am impressed! I admire anyone who pushes themselves to greatness in any sport.

Sincerely,
Brandon

Brach, how did you set up ur routines? did u do the same exercise for 1 muscle for the total sets, or 1 set of 3-4 exercises, or what? didi u use the same exercise for each training day or did u rotate them?

i used them in the past when i was around 18-20 yrs old and got really strong. Now some of the programs seem that i would be overtraining if i used them.

i have about 2 yrs worth of the news letters that came with the big beyond belief purchase back then. It was around mid 90's when i used it.

big_byrd

What exercise selection did I use?
I kept it consistent with core compound exercises... Squats, Weighted Pullups, Weighted Dips...etc.

I did however change exercises throughout the week... For example at times you're training each bodypart "every" day... So for example chest I'd do... Dips one day, Bench another, Incline another, and maybe even weighted push ups (Have a friend push on your upper back for resistence) on another...

If it says Chest 5 sets...I'd just stick to one exercise for all 5. However there were times when I would change it up and do 1 exercise of 2 sets and a different exercise for the remaining 3 sets to equal 5.

It will kill you if you're not recovering properly... I'm now 30 and my body can't hack OTS right now that's why I'm paying Phil to train me, but it was great when I was younger.

dragonfire-I have those newsletters as well and the videos... I remember reading one of the newsletters about Creatine long before I read about it in any magazine...they were pretty informative.

i didnt get any damn newsletters with my order:mad:

i was unsure the best way to do that. i thought the high reps were building upm to the heavy weights at the end of the week. the 6 day killed me. it was too much. i just pulled my book out a few days ago and thought about the 4 day plan.

I have used this myself

This is Leo Costas program yes i seen excellent results however this was back when i was in my younger years. 18-19 when my test levels were still naturally high. I think the rapid changes in the program will definately continuously shock the body into growth. However when you get into some of the different phases I seriously believe you would be over training with this program.

Regardless I like the intensity of the program & how you time your rests etc. & continuosly change your routine every 3 weeks.

PS: Dmcdonnell pm me if you would question for ya. Thanks

Age and OTS

I don't think age has as much to do with being able to handle the routine as people think. If you have your diet dialed in and your able to stay positive I think a person in their mid 40's can handle the Big Beyond Belief Six Day per week program.

Dave is 38 and I am 32. We both have been out of the gym for a very long time (15 and 5 years respectively) and we are still able to get through the workouts with great gains. At present we are in the Level 1 Training Phase 1 and are "stuck" there for the last four weeks do to our awesome progress. So I don't think age is so much of a factor.

Age and OTS....

Guys, as Brandon said, I am 38 years old (for another week at least..) I have been out of the gym for a LONG time...

I have found that if I can get my 8 hours of sleep and eat wisely between workouts, that I recover nicely.. I will say that I am not gaining as quickly as when I was in my early to mid twenties, but I still noticed nice gains from the first 6 week cycle...

When Brandon said we were "STUCK" in the level 1 training phase, I think he mispoke.. we chose to stay there for an additional week. I chose to stay there, because I was feeling really strong later in the week during the 8-10 and 5-7 rep cycle for the week... I admit that the first 2 days doing the 10-12 reps was a real bitch to get through sometimes...

In Ramp 2, as Phil can tell ya, you are starting to work back, chest, thighs calf everyday, and biceps and triceps alternate daily..

I know that this will be super intense, to the point of overtraining, however, If I continue to get lots of rest, and eat well, I think I will be fine..

Thanks,
Dave

u also have to think that because u are just starting back, u are not using ur max weights. once the numbers get up there it takes longer to recover.

I don't know...I am ony 25 lbs away from my best bench at the moment and so far I feel pretty good. Honestly, I hope you are wrong about it taking us longer once we get into the heavy stuff, but we will keep you posted on what we are doing.

Sincerely,
Brandon

master run dmc & b "fly" powell

Keep it up guys! Age may not have to do with it indeed...
However, what does is how LONG you've been at it.....and that you continue focusing on "recovery" i.e. rest physical & MENTAL, nutrition, and other recovery techniques. Everyone is different and has different life stressors that seem to compound as they get older, but again everyone is different. Do it for 10 years without stopping and then re-post. It's GREAT that you guys are "back" hitting it hard!!
Nothing like having a good partner too that can push you beyond your potential! Keep each other motivated!

Once again my suggestion is to stick with it...you're growing right? Gaining strength like crazeee? It shouldn't matter what anyone says. Whether you're 20, 40 or 90 if you're seeing results keep tearing it up!!

byrd-you have to "order" the newsletter and videos...

thanks...

Brachialis made a good point, that struck home with me...

My training partner constantly pushes me, and vice versa..

I added 70 lbs to my bench, in 6 weeks.. I don't know if that is a true number though, cause I admit that getting back in, I purposely started with weight that I could rep handily and only now am I feeling like I hit my true workout weight.. this is true with all the exercises..

now I have a question for the more seasoned guys and gals here...

For biceps, we bo mostly barbell curls, and right now, I am hitting 100-110 for approx 5 reps.. this is good for the last cycle in the week, where we do low reps adn heavier weight, but at the first of the week, I drop the weight and increase the reps..

I know the amount of weight don't matter as long as I go as heavy as I can stand and hit the muscle properly..

My question is this, in addition to barbell and ez curls, for mass, what other exercises do you guys recommend to hit the outer head of the bicep.. it seems to lag behind the inner head somewhat.. I get a huge pump in the inner head EVERY time I work them, I just feel the outer head needs a little push...

Close Grip Reverse Pull Ups...
Body Drag Curls...
Dumbell Hammer Curls...
Barbell Preachers...

Titan Training

Why don´t you like the Titan Training ?
It is only 4 days instead of 6 as in BBB.
I think I can handle it better, but it is also very hard.

Has anybody tried it ?

Yep, as I've stated i've tried them all... My joints could not handle week in and week out of Muscle Rounds. My knees and elbows started KILLING me. Personal preference

Don't get me wrong I had some nice results with TTS, but my personal favorite is still BBB SGIII. I saw my best results with SGII and SGIII.
